MD's provocative presentation at health symposium

Presentation Zen

Dr. Eenfeldt gave a presentation recently at the Ancestral Health Symposium 2011 which is getting a lot of attention. Here is an example comment on his blog; Youtube has similar comments: "Having watched more than half of the lectures presented at the Ancestral Health Symposium, I have to say that your lecture was, by far, the most engaging, entertaining, and most clearly articulated lecture.

Lessons from Robin Sharma

Manner of Speaking

Last week I had the pleasure of attending a symposium at the IMD Business School in Lausanne, Switzerland led by Robin Sharma , a globally recognized authority on leadership. It was wonderful to sit down with him after the symposium and catch up. While I cannot cover everything that Robin discussed, I have set out below some of my key takeaway points from his symposium about leadership, and how I believe they apply to public speakers.

high-tech women get a speaker's bureau

The Eloquent Woman

In my interview with Elizabeth Travis, PhD , of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, she noted the extra effort it takes to put women on scientific and technical panels: I organized an international meeting a year ago as a program chair and I said to my committee “Do not bring me a symposium without at least one woman speaker.” One man was so keen to do this, he had a symposium with all women faculty speaking—it takes that kind of effort.

Research Efficiency and Reliability: An Exercise for Public Speaking

The Communication Blog

Or a symposium on efficient research strategies could be set up where a member from each group would explain in a brief speech the strategies used to find the answer and his or her group’s evaluation of the reliability of the source. An old television game show from the 1950s, Name that Tune , pitted 2 contestants against each other. The objective was for one contestant to name the tune the orchestra would play in fewer notes than could the other contestant.

Public Speaking : Contract Marketing

Great Public Speaking

I learned this concept years ago from Dottie Walters (check out her Magnificent Marketing Symposium which is coming up in just a few weeks)[link] Smart speakers attempt to maximize the amount of money they make at each speaking engagement. Contract marketing is one way to do it. The idea is to put a mention of other products or services in your contract / agreement after you have landed the speaking engagement.

One of my bureaus booked me to keynote close an upcoming womens health symposium for 2,500 attendees yes, specifically women, my favorite audience, and closing to a well-known celebrity actress (Geena Davis, of Thelma and Louise and the hit new TV series Commander in Chief). Tapping into the symposium theme, and with full permission (and excitement) of the event creators, I adopted "Heart of A Woman" for the title of my book.

12 ways to evaluate speaking gigs for gender bias

The Eloquent Woman

Ideally, you''d want to see gender balance in the selection committee, but recent research focused on two scientific conferences showed that " having at least one woman member of the convening team correlated with a significantly higher proportion of invited female speakers and reduced the likelihood of an all-male symposium roster." Mia Doornaert, speaking at the European Speechwriter Network conference In mass media, some tests have cropped up to help evaluate gender bias.

Designing Choreographies for the New Economy of Attention

http://delicious.com/akarrer/prospeaker

18 In February of 2008, we conducted an early experiment during a day-long symposium entitled Mixed Realities ( [link] ) at Emerson College. In many ways, the symposium’s format was traditional. When the symposium started, we announced that these features were available and we invited everybody’s participation. Based on observations and questions asked during the Mixed Realities symposium, we learned quite a bit about the nuances of successful attentional choreography.
