Of course, as a global communications consultant, I monitor on the bottom of my laptop screen if there has been any activity on SKYPE. It's through SKYPE that more telecommuting gets done and there is less and less in-person (expensive travel costs) visits. When I clicked into SKYPE, I was shocked. If SKYPE didn't know that I was fat before Zulily booked that ad space, it sure knows it now.

It was such an old-neighborhood kind of expanding pleasure. Like we used to do back in downtown Jersey City, New Jersey, before the dial-up landline phone became standard. There I was in Fry's supermarket in Tucson, Arizona. And there was neighbor Patty. We talked. And as we did, without any digital gadgets interfering, a member from her church joined us. Then we talked some more.

Sure, there’s always been the option of talking to someone on the phone or even Skype, but I’ve found that if people can’t hear AND see themselves, they don’t actually get more comfortable or improve. Now, I conduct some media and presentation trainings and rehearsals entirely through Skype video. All the trainee needs is a high speed internet connection and a phone, tablet or laptop with a camera on it and a free Skype account.
