Seattle - Disruptive Affluence Versus When A Car Is Home

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Seattle has become a microcosm of the 2 cultures that increasingly are sprouting in locations which got lucky with disruptive business models. Those laid off could find themselves stranded in Seattle. Seattle mirrors changing mores in so many municipalities: Compassion has turned into the ethos of "Not In My Backyard (NIMB)." However, given the resources of Seattle, it could afford to pilot that kind of multi-dimensional initiative.

Ohio - No More Safe Haven

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Could OH become another Seattle? The joke used to be: Hey, New Yorkers, hop on I-80 and get all the toilet paper you need in Ohio. That was then. Now, OH has become another Paradise Lost in America. OH governor Mike DeWine is closing all public and private schools beginning after class next Monday until April 3rd. That's to help stagger the number of coronavirus cases so that medical facilities don't get overwhelmed. Also, that could provide enough ventilators to go around.

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Austin, Texas is one of those cool cities, right up there with Seattle and Boston. So its chamber of commerce was probably not pleased when Skip Hollandsworth published "The Midnight Assassin" in 2015. That chronicles the serial murders that took place there in the late 19th century.    The killings were intermittent. They began with servant girls and ended with two upper-middle women.    The murders were never solved.

But most of them seem to be a force-fit on specific human behavior. The explanation seems too pat.

Beware of personalization

Speak Schmeak

Or even worse, "Hello, Seattle!" Driving down State St. last week, hubby and I spotted a sign in the window of a soon-to-open Pinkberry: "Pardon our dust as Santa Barbara awaits Pinkberry's flagship store." Did Pinkberry really need to remind me that the store is opening in Santa Barbara? Because I'm driving down State St., and I know where I am. When someone tries too hard to personalize their message to fit in with the audience, they oftentimes end up looking like more of an outsider.

The event was held at the normally very cool Seattle Sculpture Park. Redfin recently hosted a free event called The Naked Truth , for tech entrepreneurs. The problem is the amphitheater on the grounds creates some odd problems for public speaking. They put the stage almost 30 feet from the front row. Even with good seats it’s a row of hard to see talking heads, sitting in the shade, while the audience is in the sun.
