Christmas by the Sea - Probably Not This Year in Westerly, Rhode Island

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

After all, they were living in Westerly, Rhode Island. The residents of senior complex Babcock Village Apartments probably had been told many times how lucky they were. That's a bit of Paradise in New England. It's based in proximity of the Atlantic Ocean. The area has beautiful architecture. The wealthy who didn't go further east to Newport built mansions in Westerly. On Christmas Day, the parts of Westerly near the ocean are jammed with parked cars.

Summer 2013: Bring your ice skates to the Jersey Shore, Westerly, Rhode Island

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

I have to assume that the parking lots in Westerly, Rhode Island are not full. Angst about global warming has mutated into spiraling commercial concern about the implications of global cooling.    This Memorial Day weekend the hospitality industry got it between the eyes with the sudden frost in the northeast.

Post-Gasoline Angst: I used gallons and gallons for day trip to Rhode Island

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

I put $50 of gasoline in before I headed out of Connecticut on I-95 to Rhode Island.  At $4.19 a gallon here in New Haven, Connecticut, gasoline has become a campaign issue.    But those of us who have gotten beyond the price angst might be making the right investment in our creativity, mental health, and future employability. Yesterday, I had one foot in the new frugality and one foot in being smart about what I needed to continue to be marketable.

Buddy Cianci Was Voice Of Experience - But That Experience Also Involved Prison

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

In Providence, Rhode Island, Buddy Cianci's campaign meme was:  experience.  But in Rhode Island, Cianci remains iconic.   Maybe that was a mistake. After all his experience included time in the slammer. Also, in this disruptive era, newness can be valued over knowing how things had been doing. As Byron Tau reports in Politico , independent Cianci, who had served Providence as major twice, lost to Democrat Jorge Elorza.

A Brilliant Mind Is Terrible Thing to Waste on Nanoscience - Charles Lieber Also Focused His on Pumpkins

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

It was in 2014 at a competitive event in Rhode Island that he killed it. Charlie Lieber's name is now associated with the alleged sale of proprietary research to the Chinese. So, in some scientific communities, that brandname is now tarnished. That could include Harvard colleagues where he specialized in nanoscience. But those in the pumpkin patch remain loyal to Lieber. As Spencer Buell reports in Boston Magazine , Lieber had a double life. That kicked in around 2007.

The New Superheroes - State Attorneys General Poking Around Facebook

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

The old type had been those like Sheldon Whitehouse in Rhode Island. New York state attorney general Letitia James is investigating Facebook. That probe is separate from those being conducted by the DOJ and FTC. Essentially, James is looking at whether Facebook, reports TechCrunch , endangers consumer data, reduces consumer choices, and/or increases prices for advertising.    Most recently 31 attorneys general for other states have joined her.

Lincoln Chafee - That He Ran For U.S. President Will Be First Line In His Obituary

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Probably, at his age, the game of running for office is over for this former governor of Rhode Island. Iconoclast politico Lincoln Chafee has dropped out of the campaign to become U.S. President. But his decision to put himself out there, positioned against a heavy-weight like Hillary Clinton, has notched his brand up many levels. The first line of his obituary will read that he did make a run for U.S. president.

Lincoln Chafee Enters Campaign 2016 As Democrat - Guy Is Survivor

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Lincoln Chafee , the protean former governor of Rhode Island, has announced he is in. Should Hillary Clinton be shaking in her boots? Maybe. This time as a Democrat. He has been known for other party affiliations. What politicos have learned is this: Be wary of survivors such as Chafee. A  A bit of an oddball based in a tiny state, Chafee has been driven out of politics.

The Ocean: Place bets there, whether a creative or real estate agent

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

However, with magical thinking I did go to Westerly, Rhode Island to price real estate. Of course, the Jersey Shore is back.   Here's the coverage from The New York Times.  A safe bet is on the ocean. That applies whether we're a creative like W.B. Yates or a real estate agent/investor. I know that.  Even the fee for the postage-stamp space under a mini mobile home was six figures. Shame on me. careers Personal Musings

Buddy Cianci: Ultimate role model for coming back big

It indicates concern about the alleged political nature of SCOTUS and recommends a review of its structure and how justices are appointed. Here is that brief.

But an ugly girl might get more attention & put in more soul

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

This enterprise in Rhode Island might not realize this.  Presentation is a tricky business.    In its Craigslist ad  it states it is seeking a pretty girl with a nice smile to get attention for the company by giving out flyers etc.    But an ugly girl might attract more interest.    Also, take it from a female who never fit with fashionable beauty criteria, we put more soul in our work.

It should approach a prestigious design school such as Rhode Island and sponsor a contest for a cool new look for a trailer. In the Southwest, friends recommend mobile-living to other friends - without apology. It's one of those rare places in the U.S. which doesn't impose stigma on this kind of lodging. As Fast Company hammers, the prejudice against what used to be called "trailers" still dominates.

PA Lawsuit Against Uber - The Legalities & Politics

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

In Rhode Island, filing a class action public nuisance lawsuit about four former lead paint manufacturers/marketers helped make the brandname of AG Sheldon Whitehouse prominent. BigTech & The State Attorney General

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

For instance, when he was attorney general in Rhode Island Sheldon Whitehouse kicked off the iconic lead paint class action public nuisance litigation against companies such as Sherwin-Williams. BigTech is under attack.    It's for many issues. But where the DOJ, FTC, and Congress have stepped up their focus is on alleged antitrust.    Now, there is a new player in the loop, reports John D. Some recall how Rhode Island attorney general Sheldon Whitehouse catapulted to fame with his lawsuit against the former lead paint companies. In WA that was Bob Ferguson. In OH it was Mike DeWine who later successfully ran for state governor.

"That Depends" - Pivot from Certainty

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

" In a school of zen headquartered in Rhode Island, the meditation mantra is: Clear Thinking, Don't Know.  America has been humbled. We were certain the way to beat average returns was through hedge funds. We knew who was going to win this election. Hollywood Golden Couple Angelina and Brad would grow old together like Bogie and Bacall.    That kind of absolute certainty gives way to the lawyerly phrase "That Depends."

Ronan Farrow has embraced investigative journalism. And, like another investigative journalist - Gabriel Sherman - he got very lucky. The celebrity he was exposing allegedly  triggered threats. In itself that alleged development creates the platform for building the BigBrand for the journalist.

From Sheldon Whitehouse to Mike DeWine - Public Nuisance Litigation as Platform for (extreme) Career Mobility

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

When I was blogging the public nuisance lead paint trial in Rhode Island, those Wall Street players called me daily. The function of the state attorney general has become one of the most powerful - and feared - in the U.S. On Law.com , Sue Reisinger documents that. And, it's become most visible in public nuisance litigation, in which outside law firms do the heavy lifting for governmental units for up to 30 percent commission via contingency.
