  A wannabe author puts an ad for ghostwriting, offering as compensation a share of royalties.    To bring in any royalties it has to be published by a big brandname like Sarah Palin or really dish the dirt like THE POLITICIAN.    Otherwise it's unlikely to yield any royalties at all.    This month I will find out from The Dilenschneider Group what royalties came in from AMA HANDBOOK ON PUBLIC RELATIONS

  The glut of product caused by self-publishing and desperation.   Maria Bartiromo, whose big name is confirmed in NEW YORK Magazine, wrote the Preface for Bob Dilenschneider's AMA HANDBOOK OF PUBLIC RELATIONS.    [Full disclosure: I receive 50% of AMA HANDBOOK royalties for assisting in its preparation.].   There is not enough of devoted reading public to keep a book alive on its own merits.

The AMA HANDBOOK ON PUBLIC RELATIONS, by Bob Dilenscheider is at number 673,447 on Amazon.com.    In 1991, his breakthrough book POWER AND INFLUENCE was a best-seller in public relations, quoted verbatim for years.    In 1998, his DARTNELL'S PUBLIC RELATIONS HANDBOOK was a standard reference tool.    I assumed - no, never assume - the publication would be that summer.
