Publishing, as it shifts from print to e-books and other kinds of publications, is in limbo.     As THE ECONOMIST reports , last week Amazon revealed that in its latest quarter, it had sold more e-books than print. So, we authors are simply bidding our time and putting up with low royalties.    Like the leaders and managers in the publishing industry, we authors are trying to figure out how to monetize digital.

  Because of my assistance in preparation of the manuscript, I am contracted to receive 50 percent of royalties.    The publisher - the American Management Association - will issue the report on the sales and royalties mid-August and then in February.    That will continue for as long as the book is in print. I have clients and colleagues whose books sold well on Barnes and Noble and crashed on Amazon.com.

Let's face it: It's the post-print era.    That's what I warn prospects who have their heart and hopes set on publishing a traditional print book through a traditional print publishing house.  Perhaps the book industry should be required to warn authors about the new realities of publishing print, at least for sale.    Books, even well crafted ones, are a hard sell.

  No surprise, I am receiving more calls for scripting and/or presenting webinars than I am traditional print books.  [Disclosure: I receive 50% of royalties for the work I did on that book.] My   Then why are too many still hell-bent on having a book published?  "A book is the price of entry." " That's what I used to advise clients.    They listened.    A book was produced.
