The year 2009 was a crossroads one for public relations.    The profession and business of PR, as we've known it, may disappear.    Yet, Edelman, the supposed first mover on social media in PR, was outed as not having at top experts proficient in social media.    Expect more brutal outings as client grouse that the PR folks can't get them publicity because they don't know digital.

  THE WALL STREET JOURNAL features public relations executive Alison Brod whose Hamptons house serves that purpose.    I hadn't found it in 12-step programs or weekend trips to the ocean in Rhode Island.  When Buddhist career coach Marc Lesser's book "Less" came out in 2009, it didn't seem to get the attention it deserved.    Lesser's thesis is that by slowing down we will get more done with more quality.

  Then I make that great intellectual leap forward to deciding that we in public relations [one of the hats I wear] should also mount that high moral ground on issues we had been involved with.  Chamber of Commerce, Manhattan Institute, Prism Public Relations, and The Dilenschneider Group helped restore balance to the U.S.   Their specific target was derailing the lead paint public nuisance litigation movement.

Among what will be on trial is the legal concept of public nuisance as applied to the opioid epidemic. In other states, where public nuisance has been alleged in the opioid crisis, the lawsuits brought by the AGs were settled. Those AGs, dating back to Sheldon Whitehouse in the Rhode Island lead paint class action, who configure public nuisance lawsuits essentially have been hailed heroes. The alleged victims of the public nuisance were children.
