Your Dreams - Permission To Pull The Plug

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

She gives us the permission we need in America to pull the plug on all that. Had I not pulled the plug on becoming a prominent literary figure, I would have missed out on making a very good living as a commercial writer. There is the strange voodoo of dreams. At least in America. Once we attach to one, such as becoming a famous investment expert or a professional dancer, we are doomed to stick with it.

It's 10 days since I posted some comments about the impact of BBC 'plug-a-book' shows on sales, following a mention of Speech-making and Presentation Made Easy (see above) on the BBC website. As expected, it soon slipped back from its all-time high of 1,841st in the Amazon bestsellers chart, but it's still been averaging about 220,000 places higher than it was before the plug on the BBC website. Facebook: Why I pulled the plug

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

She and I also added to the reasons for pulling the plug on Facebook: I am way too private for all that sharing and liking. The ethos of Facebook is The Happy Valley or PG-rated.  Positive rules.  That's been documented by research and experience. A useful read on that is e-book "Contagious Content," which you can download for free here.    Those who flourish in The Happy Valley are usually tribal.

Journalism Academic Programs: Emory pulling the plug

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Everything changes.    Respected Emory is phasing out its academic program in journalism.    That sends a lot of messages. The most blatant is that journalism as a discipline isn't in demand, not as a source of influence, not as where the jobs are.    Communications is going nicely without those conventions and values.    When someone asks me the blogger if I am a journalist, I shrug and ask why would I want to be a journalist.

Presentation tips for PowerPoint

Craig Strachan - Keep Talking!

Long extension leads & multi plugs – so you can plug in wherever the plug points are. This is an extract of a training session that I present “Putting the POWER back into PowerPoint”. Nowadays, many of us use PowerPoint for our presentations. While there are many courses and books on the technical side of how to create slides, there is very little material available on how to create effective slides and presentations. This course helps to address that issue.
