Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

They pulled that off in Missouri.  Most television series jump the shark. The producers don't pull the plug in time. That is, they don't do a Johnny Carson and exit on top of their game. That happened with "Desperate Housewives." " In its final days the plot lines become cartoonishly convoluted. The same thing might be going on with "Law & Order SVU." " Yes, it has been renewed for the 2019 - 2020 season.

For that content to shine though, it must be mounted into a powerful structure. Barack Obama’s speech today at the UN General Assembly contained both. Much analysis will be given over to the content of that speech, so let’s take a moment to examine the structure.

Last May, J&J was ordered to pay $110 million in a Missouri court verdict. This is the last episode of "Sunday Night," hosted by Megyn Kelly. And the collective feeling seems to be a sigh of good riddance. The programming, as usual, is stale. Unlike "60 Minutes," there are no breakthrough stories. Giving Thanks for Mark Twain

DeFinis Communications

Biographer Ron Powers regaled us with stories from his hometown of Hannibal, Missouri. This year, 2010, marks the centennial year of the death of Samuel Langhorne Clemens (a.k.a., Mark Twain). It is also his 175 th birthday and the 125 th anniversary of the American publication of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. It’s a big year for Twain, and I’m sure he’s bummed that he’s not here. But there’s no need to worry. There are stand-ins in abundance.

Curtain imagery from Winston Churchill and John Major

Max Atkinson

At Fulton, Missouri in 1946, he spoke of an "iron curtain" that had "descended across the continent" of Europe (for more on which, see also HERE & HERE ) : Far from prompting those who heard it to start saying things like "What curtain?" Looking through video clips for a conference presentation, I came across one that I've often quoted as an example of how effectively a simple metaphor can be used to get a point across.

What is the ethnic population of Missouri? An old television game show from the 1950s, Name that Tune , pitted 2 contestants against each other. The objective was for one contestant to name the tune the orchestra would play in fewer notes than could the other contestant. In this exercise, the objective is similar; it’s to find reliable information most efficiently, in as few mouse clicks or time as possible.

As Americans push beyond the missionary position

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Americans, such as Tiger Woods and former Missouri House Speaker Rod Jetton, have been pushing beyond the missionary position.  BDSM or rough sex seems to be the new frontier.    However, the results have been mixed, as we know. From the tone of the mistress's report of the hair-pulling and the wanting to spank by Woods it seems that she wasn't exactly a happy camper.    In law they call that non-consensual.

The 'iron curtain' descended from Russia via Goebbels to Churchill

Max Atkinson

In an interesting post on ' What PowerPoint can't show you ' yesterday, Martin Shovel poses the excellent question of whether it would have improved the famous metaphor used by Winston Churchill in his speech at Fulton, Missouri in 1946, in which he said “.

Thinking Like a Tourist

Humor Power

My first Cable Car ride was on a return trip as a tourist after I had moved to Missouri. I remember hearing of someone who lived in New York City and had never been to the Statue of Liberty. They could see the statue from their apartment window. I can relate to that. I lived in the San Francisco bay area for twelve years. During that time, I never took a ride on a Cable Car. To add interest and diversity to your life I recommend thinking like a tourist.
