Shared Royalties as payment: Pre-digital dreamer

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

A wannabe author puts an ad for ghostwriting, offering as compensation a share of royalties.    To bring in any royalties it has to be published by a big brandname like Sarah Palin or really dish the dirt like THE POLITICIAN.    Otherwise it's unlikely to yield any royalties at all.    This month I will find out from The Dilenschneider Group what royalties came in from AMA HANDBOOK ON PUBLIC RELATIONS.

Seth Godin cuts out middleman publisher, sells books direct from blog

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Another arrow in the heart of the traditional publishing industry.    Big brandname marketing expert Seth Godin is cutting out his long-time publisher Portfolio and promoting/distributing his books from his own wildly popular blog.  I had assisted with the manuscript and will receive some royalties

Fewer Bad Guys/Bad Gals: Do a show or publish a book?

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Then why are the lion's share of unemployed, underemployed or soon to be axed journalists, lawyers, bankers, and middle-managers stuck in the past?    Aside from the royalties I'm earning and the congratulations on Facebook from school chums and enemies, I don't see myself creating value.  It got that bad.   Even the isolated Everyman and Everywoman will do something to lessen the number of bad guys/bad girls out there.

Fox Effect and Long Tail

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

My concern with this particular long tail is that I had been contracted to receive 50% of the royalties because of my assistance with the book.    For February, I received no royalties

Progress: I feel like Kalinda on "The Good Wife"

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Sleuthing unfolded this information:  The information about royalties from the book I assisted Bob Dilenschneider with - AMA HANDBOK ON PUBLIC RELATIONS - is solely in his hands.    By written contact, I am supposed to receive 50% of those royalties.    That email was cced to Hank Kennedy, the President and Publisher of AMACOM, and Joan Avagliano, officer Manager at Dilenschneider's communications firm The Dilenschneider Group.

Readers, give your input: should I give up my day job?

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

All that adds up to 50% of royalties for me.  ON THE MONEY: Twice I contacted office manager at The Dilenschneider Group Joan Avagliano [jma@dgi-nyc.com] about the status the royalties.     AMA HANDBOOK ON PUBLIC RELATIONS was published by the American Management Association on February 17, 2010.    From I what I know of the publishing industry, some report of sales and royalties should be available by now.

Book Sales Uneven

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Because of my assistance in preparation of the manuscript, I am contracted to receive 50 percent of royalties.    The publisher - the American Management Association - will issue the report on the sales and royalties mid-August and then in February.  I have clients and colleagues whose books sold well on Barnes and Noble and crashed on Amazon.com.    The pull force on Barnes and Noble could be its membership discounts.

E-Limbo: We authors are simply bidding our time

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Publishing, as it shifts from print to e-books and other kinds of publications, is in limbo.  So, we authors are simply bidding our time and putting up with low royalties.    Like the leaders and managers in the publishing industry, we authors are trying to figure out how to monetize digital.    They remain, like some of publishing as well as the bookstore business, back in a literary world that print built.

No Joy in Bookville

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

When I brought this up, one woman just laughed and wondered how the movie industry was managing to survive now that people have learned to wait for the film to make it to DVD.   Public relations icon Bob Dilenschneider published in February, with the imprint of the American Management Association, HANDBOOK ON PUBLIC RELATIONS.    For assistance with the HANDBOOK I am due 50% of royalties

From the 600,000s to the 20,000 Amazon ranking: The book that made it back & did it ever

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

When that guide to communications fundamentals as they are being configured by digital technology was published by the American Management Association it quickly sunk to the 600,000s on Amazon.com.    Dilenschneider is a public relations crisis-management expert who knows how to transform the raw bits and pieces of disaster into, yes, miracles.  Full disclosure: for assistance with AMA HANDBOOK ON PUBLIC RELATIONS I earn royalties

AMA HANDBOOK OF PUBLIC RELATIONS: Like careers, books have comebacks too

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

It was published around February 17, 2010.    Then I found out through Amazon.com the book was not to be published until mid February 2010.      On this blog I signaled the powers-that-be, ranging from Dilenschneider to publisher American Management Association, that the perspective and content had to be brought up to date.  On Amazon.com, the AMA HANDBOOK OF PUBLIC RELATIONS by Robert L.

Post-Recession Do-Not-Buy List

Saving AMA HANDBOOK OF PUBLIC RELATIONS

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Published on February 17, 2010 by the American Management Association by Bob Dilenschneider, head of  The Dilenschneider Group , it's not doing as well as those in the loop anticipated.  My role, for which I'm receiving 50% of royalties, was assisting with the research, interviewing, and writing. Most media products can be saved.    Usually all that takes is some good ideas and lots of sweat equity.

The Tony Soprano Approach to Accounts Receivable

I am considering using PSI for gaining access to royalty statements for a book I ghostwrite for a professional-services firm.    The client signed a contract that I would receive 50% of royalties.    A service like PSI could manage to secure those documents in a number of ways.    One would be to contact the publisher of the book which is the American Management Association.
