In the July issue of Toastmaster Magazine, look for " Dealing With a Distracted Audience ," by Tim Cigelske (the online version isn't yet available to non-members, so I've linked to the PDF on my site). The article addresses the notion that audiences should sit quietly, hands in laps, listening raptly to a speaker. With smart phones, iPads, Twitter, Facebook and virtual notebooks at our fingertips, can we really expect this of our audiences? Does it even make sense?

George Magazine - JFK Jr. Considered Making It Web-Based

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

In too many ways George Magazine, created by John F. The magazine's identity hadn't gelled.  Supposed potential investors and advertisers scheduled presentations by the magazine to gawk at Jr., Kennedy Jr., was ahead of its time. That's a prominent theme in Steve Gillon's "America's Reluctant Prince," published last July. Gillon, although not a close friend, had been on Jr.'s 's network.

Takeaway from "O" Magazine's Focus on Suicide: TALK

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Those who didn't talk were the ones in the magazine who discussed their attempted suicides. The January 2019 special section on suicide in "O" has this takeaway: Talk. The simple act of one distressed human being opening up to someone, anyone who listens, can prevent suicide. Part of the mission of "O" is to also remove the stigma associated with suicide attempts. Putting them out there could help someone considering suicide.

Every week in New York Magazine Madame Clairevoyant posts a fresh set of predictions for each zodiac sign. And every week, the sidebar on the right indicates the column is among the most popular in the magazine. Sure, the educated shrug off horoscopes as bunk. But, they are checking them - regularly. New York Magazine's Madame Clairevoyant Compares Favorably with My Pricey Psychic

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

This week's predictions by Madame Clairevoyant already have been posted in New York Magazine. Her observations are among the publication's most popular columns.    For Tarus, my Zodiac sign, the Madame indicates " … you might notice ways your long-term efforts have begun to give back." " Overall, she observes that I experience change as difficult to the point of impossible. But change in my little life is actually pushing through.

How Your Week Could Go - Madame Clairevoyant at New York Magazine

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

No wonder then Madame Clairvoyant's weekly column is popular at New York Magazine. Knowing how your week could play out and how to make that happen or prevent it from happening gives you an edge. Destiny isn't pre-packaged. You determine it by your attitude and actions.  Here it the new post. For this week, my mission as a Taurus, Madame Clairvoyant mandates, is to value myself enough to refuse mistreatment.

Madame Clairevoyant, among New York Magazine's most popular columnists, provides it. It's in-between time. 2019 hasn't ended. 2020 hasn't begun. So, with one foot on the dock and the other reaching onto the boat, many of us want something to grab onto. Here are her predictions for this week. For Taurus, my Zodiac sign, she is partly right. She picks up that I am weary of all those people out there with their claims of certainty. Well, she refers to them as "noisy."

Newspapers, Magazines, Publishing - Was There Ever Really a "Golden Age"

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

That's why it's smart - actually, necessary for economic survival - for writers to shift out of newspapers, magazines, and publishing of most other kinds.  At least not in newspapers, magazines, and publishing. We are only three months into 2018. But, already, members of the liberal media have announced large layoffs. At conservative Breitbart , John Nolte gleefully lists the carnage.

All Magazines - Dead, Or Soon Will Be (according to Michael Wolff)

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Controversial Michael Wolff isn't being controversial when he declares this: Every magazine is dead or will soon be.   Meanwhile, of course, magazine journalists keep losing their jobs. Here are his observations in Mediaite. That format, popular in the 20th century, can't complete with native digital fare like the Drudge Report.  Wolff sort of portrays them as a lost generation.

Pew's Deathwatch on Newspaper/Magazine Jobs

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Pew Research Journalism Project confirms what most of us media watchers intuitively knew: Newspaper and magazine jobs have been disappearing. Traditionally, those in newspapers and magazines have been trained to get the "truth," whatever that might mean.  According to Pew, about 54,200 have vanished since 2003    Here is that report.

"Daily Mail TV" - Strong Ratings for CBS Newbie News Magazine

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

It's a newbie magazine on CBS. Hyper and high drama, "Daily Mail TV" is engaging audiences. Last night, there was an extended focus, from a number of angles, on the Louis C.K. apology. That was probably on the money since "TMZ" also devoted plenty of air space to it.    Like the text version of "Daily Mail," the content is packaged for the ultimate user experience (UX). Yes, we viewers feel part of the fast action.

Madame Clairevoyant - She's a Free Read on New York Magazine, But Think Hard Before You Pony Up Money for Psychics

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

No surprise, her column has been popular on New York Magazine. Here are Madame Clairevoyant's predictions for this week. And it's even more popular now in this era of uncertainty.    Also, it's a free read. So, enjoy it. But, back off paying real money for a psychic reading. After all, cash is king. You have to hold onto every penny. Yes, economically, things could get worse. The Great Depression, in comparison, can seem times of plenty. You can be your own psychic.

Forbes Magazine Releases Their List of the 70 Most Powerful People

DeFinis Communications

Last week Forbes Magazine released their list of the 70 Most Powerful People in the World. I admit I was a bit taken back by two key points of their piece: Forbes’ headline declared that of the 7 billion people in the world, these were the 70 “who mattered”. Only six of the people mentioned were women.
