Housing We Can Afford - Tipping Point

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

The tipping point for all us was the rapidly escalating cost of housing in the east. One Millennial said that in Brooklyn she felt she had really lucked out to have a room with no private bath or private entrance in a house for about $700. The family house was in a location with a good school system.   Good at finding housing bargains, I bumped into a wonderful condo near a waterfall in Connecticut and a short ride to the Atlantic Ocean in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Irene, Climate Change, End of Alternate-Housing Fantasies

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

So, unless we want to wind up habitually in shelters during storms, we are thinking twice about taking up residence in "alternate housing." " Those alternates range from the 300-square foot house on wheels to mini mobile homes to tents.    First, we couldn't hang on to the house we had bought or get a mortgage to buy one.    Their primary objection was the stigma associated with alternate housing

" If the answer is "no," then the door is wide open for other states, counties, and cities to file similar lawsuits alleging that the residue of lead paint in housing stock constitutes a public nuisance. State attorneys general, such as Rhode Island's Sheldon Whitehouse who is now a U.S. The municipalities would receive the funds needed to make older housing stock safe from the lead paint hazard. Domestic Flashpoints - Too Many Ending in Suicide-Murders

Many of those buildings house low-income families. High-profile litigation took place in Rhode Island. Environmentalists are again focusing on the toxic effects of lead paint. Only, at the current time, the lead paint issue isn't in the U.S. It's abroad. And, those savvy about public relations wonder if the U.S. companies selling that lead paint in locations ranging from Africa to Asia will create an international crisis.

That was November 1, 2005 until February 22, 2006.    The defendants promoted public policies such that the landlords were responsible for making the residue of lead paint safe.
