Doing the Right Thing Even When No One is Looking

Speaker Launcher

The post Doing the Right Thing Even When No One is Looking appeared first on Jane Atkinson. It’s easy to do the right thing when everyone is watching. But it’s just as important to do the right thing when no one is watching. You have a decision to make. A lead comes in for a speaking engagement and it sounds like they found you organically via Google. But your spidey senses say that […].

Why even send the email?

SpeakerSue Says...

Very cool. You just received an RFP and it fits your hotel, service, product like a charm. You get ready to respond with the information the planner requested because you can do it all. And you don’t book the business. What happened? You missed the “why?”. You provided the important facts, features and details. But you ignored what your buyer needs most. BONUS Know your why. It almost always comes down to helping them feel safe and smart saying, “Yes, please!”.

NDAs - Sometimes Even Required Before Job Interview

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

It's accepted: NDAs (non-disclosure agreements new employees are mandated to sign) have a legitimate purpose. They can prevent employees from revealing trade secrets. However, in many situations NDAs are used as a stealth cover-up tool for sexual harassment, discrimination, and/or retaliation. Given the agreement's terms and conditions, workers cannot go public with what they contend is misconduct in a variety of packages.

And that gets to the core problem of this series about Millennial friends in Boston. During the first season Katherine had been a tightly wound lawyer pulling out all stops to make partner. That center in the Berkshires is known for its wellness programs, such as yoga, meditation, and retreats. Those of us who have acquired so much wisdom from Buddhist nun Pema Chodron might think of Kripalu as the analogue of her Gampo Abbey , Nova Scotia, Canada but within commuting distance from the Tri-State area.

Brands As Platforms - Even Law Firms Are Getting It

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

That is even extending, as Law.com reports, to law firms supporting the activism of individual lawyers.  Likewise, it's now the business of law firms to cherry pick the best approaches, even if none are good. It's the "post" era in lots of things in business. And among what's in the post stage is branding. No longer is it about services or products. As experts, including Patrick Hanlon, put it: The brand is now a platform.

Pope Francis leveraged his Christmas message to warn leadership in the Roman Catholic Church that, overall, the beliefs of Christianity are becoming increasingly irrelevant.    Meanwhile, Gallup found that only about 50% of Americans are members of a formal religious organization.

Communication Steroids

Even the most experienced presenters can learn new techniques that improve their skills. We find very often that even the most experienced of us tries to immediately write the presentation, verbatim, from the first word to the last; or, to at least cobble out an introduction ahead of anything else. Even the greatest speakers, the most powerful orators, the most skilled motivators need to maintain their edge and keep their focus sharp.

The Atlantic, Even with Laurene Powell Jobs' Funding, Not Insulated from Ad Collapse

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

The collapse in advertising has impacted even The Atlantic, reports the New York Post. The Atlantic provides both provocative thinking and superb writing. We who value that felt optimistic about the future of the publication when the Emerson Collective, controlled by Laurene Powell Jobs, parachuted it. That represented, we assumed, a funding safe harbor. We were wrong. In addition, the funds which had come in from special events such as conferences didn't.

The new season of "Criminal Minds" kicked off last night on CBS. I had feared that without the emotionally shut down Aaron Hotchner, the long-running series would be interactionally flat. However, David Rossi, now with hair almost white, has managed to restore the chemistry among the team members. The plot circled back to when the elite BAU took down a cult. In that, its leader died. Members who survived returned for revenge. The strategy had been long in the making.

It's always surprising to realize that even veteran performers get nervous. Even performers who love working a crowd and who love the spotlight still have their anxieties. Ismaaiyl Brinsley - There Is No "Getting Even"

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Clearly the ethos of "getting even" has tragic consequences. Under the battlecry of avenging Eric Garner's death, Ismaaiyl Brinsley gunned down two New York Police officers, who later died. Then he committed suicide. Here is the coverage.    Our society has to come to a consensus that "getting even" simply expands the alleged initial wrong.    In the 1950s, I grew up in the mean streets of Jersey City, New Jersey.

That's why ABC's David Muir owns the evening news.  It's talent, backed up by an efficient production team.   CBS' Norah O'Donnell never had a chance. The New York Post reports that last week in the critical 25 - 54 demographic, viewership plunged 25%. The overall decline had been 17%. Statistics came via Nielsen.
