Improvise to Improve Your People Skills

Presentation Guru

Most people don’t spend their lives giving presentations. Many people spend NONE of their lives giving presentations. Lots of leaders I’ve met would rather not have to give any.

I Like to Watch You Sleep

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Sudden Fiction - By Jane Genova. October 2011. That's when it started. In the snail mail had arrived a letter-size sheet of paper. Scrawled across it was the handwritten note:  I like to watch you sleep.    Folded into the note was a tea bag of Cozy Time Chamomile.

A Solid List is Better Than a Big List

Speaker Launcher

When is the last time you did some list hygiene? Pardon! List hygiene is putting your email list through a series of processes that ensure that people really want to be included. We did some research recently and realized over a thousand people on my list hadn’t been engaging. That meant they hadn’t opened […]. The post A Solid List is Better Than a Big List appeared first on Jane Atkinson.

My LinkedIn profile has never included the word “resilience.” I plan to add it now.

On June 22, my condo was destroyed by a building fire. My salvageable belongings were boxed into storage, and I moved into temporary housing. I remain in temporary housing. That’s the short story. The long story is that it’s been an eye-opener – and not a good eye-opener, I might add. The disaster was started […].

DOW Putting Coal in Retirees' Stockings

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

They were a relaxed bunch, until recently. The long-running bull stock market had given them a lot more than financial security in their retirement. They had plenty of financial wiggle room to even take exotic vacations to locations such as the jungles of Africa and frozen-in-time villages in China.

65+ - We're Being Labeled "Brand Dumb"

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Somehow we made it through multiple economic downturns, including the whopper of 2008. We did what it took to accommodate a workplace gone tech. Many of us came from under debt. Yet, some economists and many financial planners have been labeling us "Brand Dumb."

Public Relations - Predictions for 2019

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Those assuming they can predict what will go down in 2019 are delusional. After all, commerce, society, and the individual all operate in a globalized world, driven by digital technology and strange politics. How those factors will intersect - smirk smirk. The possibilities are infinite.

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

The heavily flawed characters on "Criminal Minds" continually raise the question: Do human beings change? So far, none really has. Therefore, we are not hopeful that David Rossi's engagement to one of his three former wives will pan out. That was the sub plot line this evening.

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

We woke up this morning and smelled the fear. The numbers in our portfolios were look-aways. The brilliant news guy that he is, Matt Drudge focused on that - extreme economic angst - instead of politics. The headline featured the $945 billion wiped out in tech stocks. Other content linked to a prediction that the DOW would lose 2,000 points and that a recession was likely. All that was missing to spread terror throughout the land was the Drudge Report's signature flashing blue light.

In Praise of Legislative Gridlock

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Legislative gridlock can be a very good thing.    The divided Congress, reports Bob Blancato in MarketWatch , means that the push for "entitlement reform" has lost traction. That happened as a result of the midterms, in which 48% of us over-65 voted for Democrats. "Entitlement reform" is Orwellian-speak for cuts in benefits for the aging such as Social Security and Medicare. Fortunately, that won't happen in Congress in the near term.

So far, Facebook has ducked the "invitation."

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

In Shaker Heights, Ohio, Aisha Fraser is dead. She had been the mother of two pre-teen children and a sixth-grade teacher. Some speculate that this death could have been prevented had her estranged husband Lance Mason learned to control his rage. Currently, reports NBC News , he is in custody for allegedly stabbing her to death. He had been a former judge, state representative and senator, and, more recently, Cleveland's minority business administrator. That rage first sidelined him in 2014.
