Why striving to be authentic can be a trap

I suggested to Michaela that when she was delivering the most important parts of her presentation, she stand square to the audience. She pushed back on my suggestion, claiming that it wouldn’t be authentic. What she really meant is that it didn’t feel natural to her because she had never done it before. I agree with the concept of being authentic when you’re public speaking. The trap is that “authenticity” is often used as an excuse for staying in your Comfort Zone.

Liberal media outlets have gleefully covered an emerging stick-it-to-employers phenomenon. That's  ghosting.    The employer arranges an interview or even sets a start-to-work date. And the worker is a no-show. There is also no explanation provided. Such seems appropriate payback for the horrific way some in the labor force had been treated during The Great Recession. Those wounds, obviously, have not healed. And, as long as job creation keeps scaling there will be ghosts.
