Meanwhile, the frugality mindset has made many shoppers wary of the premium prices in niche stores such as Whole Foods. A smart shopper can get that kind of merchandise for less in a discount store. Walmart, Marc's, Aldi and even the dollar stores have become savvy about stocking cheaper versions of one-time elite merchandise.
