Ultimately I found this a time-consuming and somewhat frustrating experience but it did provide wonderful opportunities to meet and listen to some brilliant speakers and also to compile a much-appreciated list of recommendations which I can pass on to organisations which have booked me. I managed to work in a topical gag about appalling reality TV which got a decent laugh and, at the end of the speech, was able sincerely mention the lovely setting, the lovely meal and the lovely audience.
