Lawyers for former congressman and candidate for New York mayor Anthony Weiner are trying to keep him out of prison. His sentencing is September 25th, before U.S. District judge Denise Cote. He could receive up to 10 years. Sexually oriented offenses aren't treated well in prison. Weiner will likely be roughed up. In a memorandum, the lawyers positioned Weiner's sexting to a minor as a sign of a "deep sickness."

Trial as community healer

What seems to have happened as a result of the two trials - the one about conviction and this one about the sentencing - is that the community has begun healing.  Today was the third day of deliberations for the jurors in the penalty phase of the Petit murder trial.    At the end of it, a Sunday, they still had not reached a decision about life imprisonment or death for convicted murderer Steven Hayes.    Earlier they had been deadlocked.
