Need a Remote for Your Next PowerPoint Presentation? There’s an App for That

DeFinis Communications

I go through remotes faster than infants outgrow clothes. So if the venue you’re presenting in doesn’t have WiFi, the remote won’t work (meaning you can’t rely on this app as your only remote option). I work with many people who give PowerPoint presentations. And no matter how experienced they are, invariably a few of them forget to bring (or don’t own) a remote control for advancing their PowerPoint slides.

Most companies selling tech products stick with this price strategy and so do some clothes retailers. Everlane, a DTC clothing brand, that practices radical transparency shows on its website the true cost of manufacturing each garment (COGS), plus their markup.

Speakers: dress the part

Speak Schmeak

It all depends on the audience, the venue, the topic, your personal style, your message and the image you want to convey. At Ruth Sherman''s recent event, she changed clothes halfway through the day to demonstrate how the way we dress can present different "vibes" to the audience, can influence the mood of the event, and can solidify our personal brand. I don''t typically subscribe to generic rules about how to dress as a speaker.

Stand or sit, and why does it matter?

Speak Schmeak

At conference tables, on panels, and in other small venues, it can be considered awkward to stand when speaking. If any of these positions are uncomfortable or precarious, change the offending piece of clothing. When we think of public speaking, the traditional image that comes to mind is a person standing in the front of a room full of people.

Public Speaking: Which Type of Microphone Should I Use?

Great Public Speaking

The type of microphone you use is dictated by the venue of your event, the purpose of your presentation and the size of your audience. Lavaliere The lavaliere is a wireless microphone that clips onto your clothing. The cable is usually hidden beneath the speaker’s clothing. You can even carry it, though most speakers like to be hands-free and would rather clip it onto their clothing so they can move around the room.

You Have Not Seen New York Until You Have Seen It With Omar Khan!

Fripp THE Executive Speech Coach

Fuzzy questions (as no one wants to say the Emperor has no clothes) elicit fuzzier answers (as titular “leaders” are loathe to commit to anything without first going to committee to ensure any action has been rendered anodyne). I was never crazy about New York until I spent a couple of days with Leslie and Omar Khan. You have not seen New York until you have seen it with Omar Khan! Omar Khan is a globally acknowledged leadership development innovator and success coach.

An imaginative innovation in a PowerPoint presentation?

Max Atkinson

You might think that a meeting of voluntary part-time stewards in a medieval bishop’s palace would be an unlikely venue for PowerPoint presentations, let alone that you’d see anything new in the way this latter-day scourge of audiences can be used.

Speaking with Authentic Authenticity

Speak and Deliver

Some speakers, such as Scott the Nametag Guy, make their clothing a part of their brand. Another tip for your readers is to arrive at the speaking venue early and try to meet some of the people who will be in the audience.

Among other advice I might give, one thing I’ve done is to try and combat the unpredictability of cabin temperature — seems every flight is either too hot or too cold — by dressing in clothing suitable for both temperature ranges, usually something like Columbia Omni-Dry pants and a Nike Dri-Fit shirt. Side benefit: If you spill a beverage in flight, synthetic clothing always dries faster.) I might use it at a home venue where I know it works.

Attendees in the audience at eComm2009 / ©2009 James Duncan Davidson Rule of thumb for speaker clothing: Dress like you mean it. ~0 Obviously, you should wear clothes that you are comfortable in on stage. Wear nice clothes. But speakers at other venues often make the mistake of writing a speech & then reading it - which is a great way to put an audience to sleep.

Famous Speech Friday: Queen Noor's 1996 Kennedy Center speech

The Eloquent Woman

And there''s loads more you can learn from this famous speech: Consider using your venue as part of the story. But she moves beyond that here to discuss similar challenges faced by all women in the public arena: I was soon able to empathize with the frustrations of women around the world whose activism for public well-being commonly generated attempts to define them primarily in material rather than intellectual terms--in terms of gender and domesticity, their hairstyles and clothing.
