It could mutate into THE ECONOMIST, though with big-name bylines like Michael Lewis and who else money could buy. Will the overhauled BLOOMBERG BUSINESS WEEK make the business category hot again?    Maybe not.    Maybe it will be, like the vanity of deep-pocketed Rupert Murdoch who took over THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, just another situation of a lot of money invested and not much wonderful happening.

That full-length print book for our own byline: Not so easy for ghostwriters

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Today I struggled through the galleys for my first full-length print book which is entirely for my byline.    What we write for our own byline is done as a hail-mary pass.    Writing for our own bylines, it's only us relative nobodies.   It was difficult and it felt strange.    See, I am used to being a ghostwriter.    To begin with, what we ghostwrite is how we make our living.    And a good living it is.

Speechwriters need to move outside their anonymity and get bylines: bylines from magazine articles, novels, blogs, non-fiction books, essays, op-ed pieces … in short, anything that gives you credit for your writing talent. If you read this blog often, you know my strong belief that speechwriters (who are normally anonymous) need to write more than just speeches.
