Get a feel for the space: I have the preparedness gene, so I checked out photos of the room online and made sure I dropped by the venue the day before when the organizer would be there. The next session will be in early 2014 in London.

1: From workshops to keynotes Because of tight budgets and more interest from nonprofessional speakers, most concurrent sessions and teaching seminars at association conventions and trade shows are filled with vendors, members and other nonpaid experts. Therefore, to get the big fees – or any fee at all – you must compete in the keynote or general-session market. A keynote speech and a session workshop are two completely different animals.

Hash tags on each session as well as the event might help. But I think more of the business networking happens during the event, in between the sessions, than at dinners and tweetups. Great speakers, great content, great venue, great networking - all may still be in place.
