The game is The Great Gravitas. It used to be primarily played in tabloids like The National Enquirer and Star. We were instructed to feel sympathy for brave Laura Bush who had to put up with Condi. Now, it goes way beyond the traditional dictum in media of If it bleeds, it leads. Mainstream media have hammered us with the suffering of everyone. But, yet, come the first of month it's me who has to pay the bills.

Yet, as Jordan Crook reports in Tech Crunch , Baltimore resident Gabrielle Wathen was disraught that the tab for her Halloween 22-minute ride totaled $326. This time Uber wasn't at fault. The ride-sharing service, which venture capitalist Peter Thiel sees as "ethically challenged," applies surge pricing during peak travel periods and emergencies. Call that the old law of supply and demand. It also lets prospects for rides know approximately what that will be.

It was found out that he had raided the cookie jar when he was a lawyer in Baltimore. There is a lot of money in clients' accounts. And there are lawyers who need temporary financing. So, as happens in fiction and in real life, the lawyers put their hands in the cookie jar. Most position and package it in their heads as a temporary loan they will repay. The law sees the situation differently.

In fiction, we recall that Will Gardner from "The Good Wife" embezzled from his law firm in Baltimore. Do businesses need more methods to pick up on fraud via fake invoices? Seems so. Again, we are hearing of an allegation that an employee at a law firm pulled off that caper. This this around it's Rocco Romeo, the Chief Technology Officer at Budd Larner. His alleged accomplice was Jacqueline Geller.

Both those revelations would bring to a climax a week of violent protests in Baltimore, Maryland, and in cities around the U.S. She also spoke directly to the citizens, particularly the young people of Baltimore, to urge them to continue to play a part in the justice process. People took to the streets of Baltimore again after she spoke, but to celebrate this time, and she's being credited with diffusing tensions with this speech.

About 15 years ago when he was working at a law firm in Baltimore, Will had "borrowed" $45,000 from a client's account to pay his gambling debt. He did return the money to the account. But the consequences of that have come to haunt him. Wendy Scott Carpenter reported Will to the bar. It gave him the choice of beginning proceedings to disbar him or accept a 6-month suspension from practicing law.

Will's past in a Baltimore firm catches up with him. What will Will do? That's the central question on "The Good Wife" this Sunday. He had been gambling and borrowed from client funds. Now they have yanked his license. If he can't practice law how will he make a living and keep himself whole? Alicia urges him to fight this and defend himself.

His current job as Governor of Maryland generates myriad opportunities for media to interview him about the crisis in Baltimore. Those in the Anyone-But-Hillary camp now have Martin O'Malley. They will probably pull out all stops to fundraise and maximize media opportunities. But O'Malley has lots more going for him than that. At the top of the list is his age. He is 50 years old versus Hillary Clinton's 65.

Peter's office is aware that when Will was at his first job in Baltimore he took $45,000 out of a client's account to pay off a gambling debt. Although Baltimore is not Peter's jurisdiction, he can still put in motion a process in which Will could eventually not only lose his law license but also wind up in jail. This was not Will's night on "The Good Wife."

On "The Good Wife," law partner Will Gardner had done that in Baltimore to settle his gambling debts. That was fast. The attorney who represented adult film star Stormy Daniels - Michael Avenatti - had been positioned and packaged as advocate for the powerless against the 1%. His name was everywhere in the media. It still is. But, as of today, as nothing but a shakedown artist - and more bad things.

That's an experiment this liberal arts college in Baltimore is trying, reports Nick Anderson in The Washington Post. Instead of spending months being coached for the SAT, applicants to Goucher can plan and create a video. The initiative is, well, disruptive. To begin with, it makes sense, which few policies and procedure in higher education do. We live in a visual era.

In tony neighbors, such as gentrified sections of Baltimore, Maryland, there are walk-ins. The memory of the fatal home invasion of the Petit household, Cheshire, Connecticut, is stuck in our consciousness. The mother and two young daughters were murdered. It was during the day. The father William Petit, who survived a brutal beating, still has nightmares. He fears that he won't be able to protect his new family, which includes a toddler son.

Another - Kay Prezio - bunks in Baltimore, Maryland, but comes West now and then. The idea of sisterhood was introduced during the second wave of feminism. Essentially it was political. Instead of the world continuing to be entirely a man's, we and our sisters were told that we could re-make it into an entity in which we also had power. And that we did. That was the 1970s. We were young. We were on the way to the top of corporations.

Since Christmas 2015, Kass Prezio, now based in Baltimore, Maryland, has been helping me sort through the contents of that storage unit. The meme of this second decade of the 21st century is: moments. Twitter captures them in text and photos. It even has a section marked that way. Selfies give our moments visual power. That was when he was a lawyer in Baltimore. Both real life and fiction are full of examples of lawyers who consider client funds to be their personal ATM machines. In real life, the latest example of that is Rutgers law professor Ari Afilalo. His borrowing from two clients' accounts is told by Kathryn Rubino on Abovethelaw. Because he got caught, he has resigned from the bar. Here you can read that too-familiar tale of self-destructiveness.

It was a three hour afternoon session on Martin Luther King day in Baltimore, Maryland. I recently had one of the toughest speeches of my career. It was difficult for many reasons, but one of the most trying was that the audience consisted of all the employees of one company. They ranged from the lowest level to the highest level in the company. When you have all managers or all executives, it is relatively easy to hone in on their interests and concerns.

It's already a blessing to have one friend in Baltimore, Maryland and what seems to be the beginning of something right here in small town America. One time I was the last speaker on a long program in Baltimore, Maryland, for a food service management company. The last speaker of a long afternoon or evening program should not expect a great response, again because folks are too worn out. Keep your presentation short and crisp and acknowledge the lateness so that the audience knows you care about them. I was being introduced at 8:35 p.m. on a Monday night in the fall. What do you think the mostly male audience was thinking at 8:35 p.m.

The setting is The Engineers Club, Baltimore, Maryland. How about this for a model for profit: Sell less, make more. That counterintuitive approach - called decoupling - was presented to California utilities, it worked and it's still working. By providing consumers incentives to conserve energy, CA utilities not only made profits. They helped prove out the first green model.
