PowerPoint slides as handouts

Speak Schmeak

Conference attendees frequently request PowerPoint slides as handouts. If your PowerPoint has so much text and data that it can be used as a handout, then you're doing something wrong. Instead, provide handouts that: 1. Give tools for your audience to use when they leave Keep handouts to a minimum; once your seminar attendees see how much paper they've brought home from the conference, much of it will go right into the recycling bin.

Public Speaking - Handouts

Great Public Speaking

Handouts are multipurpose tools that enhance most presentations. I provide handouts for virtually every presentation I do. Computer programs make it very easy to create totally customized handouts for your presentations. Most of the time I customize the inside of the handout too. I only use modules that I know will pertain to their group and many times I include quotes that I got from the actual attendees during my pre-program interviews.

5 ways to improve your micro-presentations

Speak Schmeak

In fact, I give only 2-3 minutes in my retreats and corporate trainings for my attendees to practice their presentations. If you're going to use a poll, breakout rooms, a handout, a game or another kind of engagement activity, time it. Have you noticed presentations getting shorter?

Five things speakers can learn from event planners

Speak Schmeak

It would be ridiculous to expect a well-organized event with such a short lead time, unless it's very small, with very few attendees and very few supplies and equipment needed. Have you gotten input from the organizers or attendees about their needs and interests? Have you checked to make sure you have extra batteries , an extension cord, enough handouts, a backup copy of your PowerPoint, and a timer? I have two clients who are event planners.

Webinar “How to Plan an Audience-friendly Presentation”: Your Questions Answered

Speaking about Presenting

The handout for the webinar is my Presentation Guide: How to Make an Effective PowerPoint Presentation. As one attendee suggested, use several cycles of why, what and how. Mind mapping is a useful technique for many creative projects. How do we link the plan to handouts? The handout doesn’t need every element of the planner (eg: Set the Scene).

Avoid the 8 deadly sins of webinars

PowerPoint Tips

You’ve seen this a million times as a webinar attendee. Invite attendee contributions by asking them questions. If the service doesn’t let attendees see each others’ comments, read them out loud just as you repeat a question in a live presentation when an audience member asks a question that not everyone can hear. Attendees love to hear the answers of others in their group. Standing as you speak is a helpful technique.

Using a tablet or e-reader for Speaker Notes

Dave Paradi's PowerPoint Blog

While PowerPoint presentations are seemingly all digital, they tend to generate a lot of paper with the handouts, speaking notes, and flipcharts that are used in many presentations. In my session I’ll be showing techniques to eliminate the paper associated with many presentations. One of the techniques I’ll be showing is a technique that I have started to use that eliminates the speaking notes that I would print for each presentation and then promptly recycle afterwards.

Public Speaking: Creating a Favorable Learning Situation

Great Public Speaking

The attendees look upon the time spent as a learning investment. It's best to use humor that is specific to the discipline and that will probably only be understood and/or appreciated by the attendees who have an intimate knowledge of the topic. Stories to which the attendees can directly relate, and ones that demonstrate practical methodologies of what to do or what to avoid, will assist the attendees in empathizing with the information being taught.

What does your audience want and need?

Executive Speech Coach

The attendees at this conference included teachers, health care workers, consultants, writers, trainers and even business managers. Please move on to explain the techniques about HOW to write humor. While he continued to speak about the WHY I perused the handout materials and it looked like good tips about the HOW were planned. We really wanted the HOW and I was concerned that he might not have enough time to adequately cover the techniques indicated in his program materials.

engage your audience with new media

The Eloquent Woman

Create an electronic handout: The group's administrator asked whether I had a handout or wanted my slides reproduced for the participants as a takeaway. And I said no, because I planned to craft a blog post that would serve as an electronic "handout." Because I let the group know about it in advance, they included a link to the "handout" when they emailed participants to get their evaluations.

Content Meets Delivery. The Art of Capturing Attention

http://delicious.com/akarrer/prospeaker

How do we keep improving the process, delivery and content so that what we have to offer remains something the attendees want to hear? The instructor, instead, resorted to another commonly used technique to gain audience participation. Finally, giving in to the pain, the attendees simply looked forward at the slide on the screen, settled back in their chairs and crossed their arms. Even a frustrated patron glaring at a noisy attendee is not effective.
