The Light-House Speaker

The Presenter's Blog

Only one: a Light-House Speaker. Light-Houses serve one of two functions: They send out a light that indicates safe harbor, illuminating hope and direction. A Light-House speaker is one who performs both functions simultaneously, to two opposing audiences. The Light-House Speaker takes a stand that provides a beam of light to inspire others. When the best choose silence, we need the Light-House Speaker to inspire, and yes to sometimes shame them, into action.

Economic Pall Hovers over America - Homelessness & Return of "Hot Beds"

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Usually the parents are eager to be out of the shelter and into subsidized housing. My own immigrant grandparents housed their married children who bounced back after losing jobs.  With such a dark economic cloud hovering over America, so far no rats have surfaced.

None of That Tiny House Stuff Here

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Even if the current downturn in the housing market puts their sales plans on hold, they still are banking, literally, on extracting a king's ransom from their key asset.   So, property values dominate much of America. Therefore, it should be no surprise that the minimalist movement is not welcome in communities which already have the expensive houses. What those opposing tiny houses in a community of McMansions fear is the old "there goes the neighborhood."

Is America Saying: Let Them Eat Lead?

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Yet, the lead paint problem remains in housing, particularly in urban areas. Now, as the New York Post reports, 34 units of public housing in New York City still contain lead paint.   Have the values of America essentially been: Let them eat lead? The U.S. is one of the richest nations of the world. It's left over from the time when it was still legal for corporations such as Sherwin-Williams to manufacture and sell that product for residential use.

Prostitutes as Way of Life: From Summit of the Americas to senior citizen housing

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

At the Summit of the Americas there are likely some ticked off prostitutes.    They will be not getting some of the business they had counted on.    Of course, there are also some ticked off U.S. taxpayers who have been informed by the media such as POLITIC O that American secret service and military allegedly have been involved in the purchase of those services. However, this should hardly be shocking.

Boozing Might Have Made America Great

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Early in my recovery I hosted a booze-free house-warning in my new house. Indeed, boozing might have been what made America great. Long after the opioid epidemic runs its course, America likely will still have a serious problem with alcohol.  The new usual in 12-step programs is the announcement that a member has died. The cause is an opioid overdose. Those at the meeting mourn by sharing fond memories of the deceased.

Less and Less Common Space in America - So So Lonely

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

The lack of common ground isn't just in politics in America. Both those stand-alone ones and the in-house fitness centers in residential complexes are wide open to socializing. In more and more aspects of life there also is less and less common space. That's what Matthew Walther observes in his article on loneliness in The Week. That puts the odds against finding other human beings we can become friends with. The crisis of loneliness deepens. According to YouGov, 30% of U.S.

Old-Fashioned Solution for Multi-Dimensional Problems: Bringing Back Boarding Houses

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Actually, it's an old-fashioned one: a cool version of the boarding house. " Decades ago, television series and B-films about the wild west had featured those boarding houses. Most were flop houses.    When I worked in Barcelona, Spain, I bunked in a boarding house off Calle de San Francisco. Ambition - As in Nixon White House, Is Hillary Clinton Making Extreme Drive Negative?

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Yet, one wonders if those kinds of Sunday-School explorations of values took in America. She risked her life to reach her goal: the White House. The 1976 book "Blind Ambition" was John Dean's attempt to explain his dark side during the Nixon Administration. The Watergate mess which resulted from that extreme drive triggered dialogue (that was the term used back then, not conversation) about the need to keep ambition within ethics and law.

Back during the 2008 global financial crash, the aging in America got it: They many never fully recover from the downturn in equities, market value of housing, and job market.
