Boy Scouts of America: An American value?

The Presenter's Blog

America has made itself the home of public speaking. The Greeks and Romans might have started the art of oratory, but during the 20th and 21st centuries it was with their MLKs and JFKs, with their Reagans and Obamas, that America championed oratory. To consciously teach someone to repress their identity, is not a value of America. Making young people lie about their identity and to doubt themselves, is not a value of America.

“It’s Halftime in America” — An Analysis

Manner of Speaking

One commercial that caught my attention was Chrysler’s motivational offering entitled “It’s Halftime America” and featuring Clint Eastwood. It’s halftime in America too. Yeah, it’s halftime America and our second half is about to begin. Still, it would have been more effective, in my view, to substitute “Detroit” and “America” for “them” and “all of us” Thus, “Detroit’s showing us it can be done.

AA & America's Legal System

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

In meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) across America, attending are those "sentenced" by the court. Usually that is positioned and packaged as an option: AA or jail. For X number of months they will attend Y number of meetings a week and have their being there verified by the meeting secretary, who in AA, is referred to as a "trusted servant." " It's puzzling that such a legal ritual still takes place.

Mourning in America

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

America is still a nation which cannot embrace the reality that all human beings die. In fact, our beloved dogs do, too.    So, when there is a death, the normal rules of the heart get suspended. At the top of the list is that we must mourn that passing. No, we can't celebrate with a Good Riddance. But that could change. Probably should change. Some liberals felt forced into putting on a long face when war hero and government servant John McCain passed from the earth.

What America Reads…

Matt Eventoff

I found this post from Brian Solis very interesting – a list of the top media outlets, by circulation, as well as the 25 most popular blogs in America, as compiled by BurrellesLuce. . Marshall McLuhan is famous for stating “the medium is the message&# and with the introduction of a newer medium (online, web) there is constant debate as to its effect on older mediums (print, broadcast).

Aging in America - Financially Squeezed

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Do the math. For 2019, the increase for seniors and others receiving Social Security was 2.8%.    For 2020, the Social Security Administration announced, The Wall Street Journal reports, the increase will only be 1.6%. Meanwhile, the Consumer Price Index showed that inflation had recently increased 1.7% over the previous year. In addition, what is expected, but not confirmed yet, is that the premium for Medicare Part B will rise from $135.50 monthly to $144.30 monthly.

The dancing, singing, and special effects were so brilliant that the two Latinas finally freed America from the ethos of the Puritans.  Variety appropriately praises the Halftime show by Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.

The UnPilling of America

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

OH is a microcosm of what is happening throughout America as the medical community fears getting on the radar of law enforcement and regulatory agencies.    Could this crack-down on opioids be the start of the Unpilling of America? This is Ohio.    Opioid abuse has been an epidemic, with daily deaths from overdoses. Those deaths are the usual, along with weather, on the evening news.

Disney Can't Mickey Mouse With America Any More

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Mickey Mouse had a good run. But now, the ethos of happiness through paying high prices visiting Disney theme parks is collapsing. Somehow the leadership at Disney decided to open Florida's Disney World, despite all the unknowns about COVID-19. New York Magazine documents that is a bust. Few are showing up. No surprise, polls show only about 19% of those surveyed feel safe going to a theme park during the pandemic.

Is America Saying: Let Them Eat Lead?

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Have the values of America essentially been: Let them eat lead? The U.S. is one of the richest nations of the world. Yet, the lead paint problem remains in housing, particularly in urban areas. It's left over from the time when it was still legal for corporations such as Sherwin-Williams to manufacture and sell that product for residential use. In the late 1970s federal law banned it.

With such a dark economic cloud hovering over America, so far no rats have surfaced. The grim issue of homelessness in the U.S. is broadening. Now, as The Guardian reports, the Shelter-in-Place policy in San Francisco, from March 30 through May 24th, is being reviewed as a factor in the deaths of 48 homeless. That number is 3Xs as many deaths as occurred among the homelessness during that time period last year.

And, because we could live until 100 or more, we wonder if we will even be able to afford to live in a studio apartment in a bad section of Florida.

Bank of America has declared the nation is in a recession. The brand of higher education in the U.S. has received yet another blow. This time the source is universities' and colleges' refusal to refund the full amount of the fees for room/board and tuition. Students have been mandated to leave campus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, those housing and meal contracts have already been paid for. The instruction is no longer in-person but online. Tuition has already been paid for.

One or more wins for the defendant can discourage new litigation filings, along with motivating current plaintiffs to settle. That's what could happen for Johnson & Johnson. AirBnb Vs. Small Town America

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Airbnb is usually associated with large urban areas. There, motivation is high to get a deal on lodging for a short-term stay. Hotels can run into the hundreds of dollars per night.    And, given the high cost of maintaining a roof over your head in big cities, there is also motivation to generate income by renting out your long-term space. The middleman on that is Airbnb or its growing number of competitors. Not that Airbnb has had an easy regulatory time in cities.

Long after the opioid epidemic runs its course, America likely will still have a serious problem with alcohol.  The new usual in 12-step programs is the announcement that a member has died. The cause is an opioid overdose. Those at the meeting mourn by sharing fond memories of the deceased. The typical downward trajectory begins with a legitimate need for painkillers.
