VOGUE #1 - Guess it won't have Two Girls from Alaska on cover

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Given its position of strength, it's unlikely the publication will run a cover with the Two Girls from Alaska, Sarah and Bristol Palin.  Will the Two Girls from Alaska try to get a reality show about making halibut tacos? VOGUE is magazine of the year.    Its sales on newsstands are up double-digits.    And the cover of Lady Gaga generates more than the usual buzz among the already-chatty media types.   Boykung.

For example, in California, Alaska, and South Dakota even a non-violent death within a certain time period has to be made known. In foreclosure, the house in which Chris Watts and his family lived will be auctioned off this coming April. It had been purchased in May 2013 for $392,709. There remains almost a $350k mortgage on it. Watts, now in prison, has been notified of the auction. Here are more details from the Daily Mail.

Interview: Melanie Watkins, MD – motivational speaker

Ian Griffin - Professionally Speaking

To hear what she told me about her speaking program which has taken her from Alaska to New York; her talks to students from disadvantaged backgrounds; the story behind her book and the importance of mentorship, click on the podcast icon below. Melanie Watkins always dreamt of becoming a doctor but when she found herself sixteen and pregnant, that dream seemed out of reach. Having been raised by a single mother, Melanie knew the challenges single motherhood presented.

Speak Schmeak

I caught Rachel Maddow's MSNBC show the other night during her interview with state senator Hollis French of Alaska. Every time we have somebody on from Alaska, they're like *the* most articulate, clear-thinking, clear-speaking person we've yet spoken to." Besides the fact that she has short hair like me and wears a t-shirt in the picture on her website and says this in her bio.

Sarah Palin: Was her game money, not power

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Think about it: Palin did leave political office in Alaska.  Those doing the polling might be wasting their time on the wrong supposed politico.    So what that Sarah Palin's ratings are now down in the 30s.    I have a hunch that power was not her game.    She and daughter Bristol seem to be more focused on money.    They seemed to be determined to earn it in whatever ways were productive.

Girl Falls From Amusement Park Ride - Legal/Branding Fall-Out

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Instead of putting the children on the rides in an amusement park they might decide to go camping or drive to explore Alaska. The world rejoices that the ride-faller at Six Flags Great Escape was rescued. The condition of that 14-year-old girl remains unknown, however. But, in this litigious society, the question on so many minds is: Does she have grounds for a lawsuit? In addition, the brand is everything.

Big U.S. City Blues - Packing the New American Dream into a Moving Van or on a Plane Heading Beyond the Borders

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

One retiree from pricey Fairbanks, Alaska to lower cost Youngstown, Ohio spent over $6,000 to have her material possessions moved. You can't afford a house, not even in the softened market. And, taxes are way too high. So, the odds are that you are packing the moving truck and relocating your dreams out of New York City, Los Angles, and Chicago. According to Bloomberg , together the three lost 403,000 residents in 2017. Where are you headed? That depends.

Brand Palin: Can it be rebranded?

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

The Palin Girls can carve ideological territory about women surviving in harsh environments like Alaska and Haiti where they have to be much more than someone's wife. For almost four years Brand Palin (Sarah and Bristol) had a good run.    Lots of the money was made and fun was had.    Now, it seems the brand is dead.    Fox News, for example, canceled its interviews with her, reports POLITICO.

"Criminal Minds" - The Internet & Narcissism

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

On the more interesting side, Spencer got a short haircut and Garcia has bounced back from witnessing that murder in Alaska.  Tonight's serial killer was likely packaged to warn the world about the perils of the Internet.    That's what undermined the quality of this episode.    The writing was so-so and the acting sub-par. The plot line concerned a number of women who had gone missing.

"Desperate Housewives" - Theme of Humiliation

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Susan is reduced to working as a nannie for Lynnette and her husband Mike has become a migrant worker, that is, he went to Alaska for employment.  Some of the girls are going through a rough time.    It's hard for Susan to be the poor one. Bree feels less than with a man 17 younger than she is.    Not only is she in menopause but she doesn't want to go through the kiddie thing again.    She tries to release him but he won't go.

Suicide: Passing over into an alternate reality?

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

He had been part of the team investigating Alaska Senator Ted Stevens.  Another suicide of a high achiever in the legal profession stuns the nation.    Department of Justice prosecutor Nicholas Marsh took his own life over the weekend.    Then that team itself was under investigation for missteps.    One, reports Evan Perez in THE WALL STREET JOURNAL, was "not turning over exculpatory evidence to the defense."

Sarah Palin: Shelf life expiring

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

She was from Alaska. Upheavals mean opportunity for some.    America was entering one of those when Sarah Palin came to our attention during Campaign 2008.    She was different.    No Bobbi-doll look like other GOP females such as Carly Fiorina.    No plain-vanilla platitudes.    And she wasn't from the midwest or northeast.  Palin has had a good run.

Nation of Narcissists - Who Cares?

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

Now, of course, we are a nation of narcissists, all the way to Alaska , where Sarah Palin can see Russia.  It happened fairly quickly.    As recently as 2002, Sandy Hotchkiss had published a book "Why is it always about you?"  "  It was intended for readers to identify the narcissists in our lives and manage them.    Does anyone care that Palin has been saddled with the label of narcissist?    Of course not.

Signature Speeches

Speaking Of...

I'm aiming for speaking dates in Texas and Alaska, as I think these locales offer me greater challenge. This is the time of year I am working on speaking dates for spring 2010. Deciding what to offer as a topic is something that is always chaleenging. Most professional speakers become SME's, or so-called Subject Matter Experts, in certain fields, and are able to offer these topics as either a keynote or breakout session speech.

"Criminal Minds" - Garcia Takes Emotional Hit

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

In an isolated Alaska town of 1400 residents a serial killer takes three lives.    Then there will be two more victims after the elite team of the FBI arrives.    Because of bad reception in the area the team has to bring along Penelope Garcia.    She seems to have bounced back from being shot by a nut job.    But she hasn't. When the reception breaks down, Garcia goes out of the inn where the team is staying to try to restore it.

Righteous High: First Prohibition, Then The Tea Party

Jane Genova: Speechwriter - Ghostwriter

However, nobodies, like a one-time governor from Alaska, become somebodies.  A self-interested introvert, I always wondered what the earnest agitators got out of causes.    Now I know.    In his 2010 book LAST CALL: THE RISE AND FALL OF PROHIBITION, Daniel Okrent captures the enormous high the righteous reformers derived from banning demon alcohol.      A wonderful time was had by all. Communication Strategies: How to avoid talking like a racist

The Communication Blog

Inuk (plural Inuit ), also spelled with two n’s ( Innuk and Innuit ), is preferred to Eskimo , which was applied to the indigenous peoples of Alaska and Canada by Europeans and literally means “raw. According to Andrea Rich “any language that, through a conscious or unconscious attempt by the user, places a particular racial or ethnic group in an inferior position is racist.” Racist language expresses racist attitudes.

Clinton, Palin and the legacy of Margaret Thatcher

13 famous U.S. political convention speeches by women

The Eloquent Woman

Sarah Palin's acceptance of the 2008 vice presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention introduced the little-known Alaska governor to the convention and the nation, and cast her in the role of the happy warrior. As Americans head to the polls with the option, finally, to elect our first women president, it seemed right to focus on political speeches by women.
