Alben Barkley was a politician who served as the 35 th Vice President of the United States from 1949-1953 under President Harry Truman. Above all he loved rhetoric, had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful storyteller.
I got a call today from a woman who owns a bakery that specializes in selling gluten free products—cookies, biscotti, scones and other wonderful wheat free foods. She has a good niche market but wants to grow her business—and someone told her to look into public speaking as an avenue to get the word out.

If you ignore your feelings about politics, religion etc … and examine the speech strictly from a rhetorical point of view, it was a masterpiece.
Because of the tension that exists between the United
States States and Muslims around the world, there was potential for a
hostile In yesterday’s post , I said that Obama’s speech at Fort Hood was not his best ever, but I didn’t say which speech I thought was his best.
Most of Obama’s speeches are good, but his best speeches, in my opinion, were the most difficult to deliver.

In stark contrast to the 43rd President of the United States of America, President Barack Obama spoke clearly, concisely, and confidently to the millions of people listening to him deliver his inaugural address.
Even though those in attendance and around the world were anxious to hear soaring rhetoric and words of inspiration, Obama’s message was a little more serious. His task was a difficult one. The moments of inspiration were there, but they were always balanced out by the reminder of the obstacles America faces as a nation.
