Our meeting began with Linda taking the podium to welcome the enthusiastic audience and to introduce the evening’s speaker. Best of all, Alan used a variety of rhetorical devices, including statistics, examples and stories, that kept his message alive and engaging. One of the many reasons why I enjoy living in the Bay Area is the seemingly endless opportunities to hear good speakers. I

Attention encompasses controlled distraction carefully directed towards a particular goal. 7 Munsterberg’s depiction of how to capture the pupil’s attention remains influential within the contemporary rhetoric of e-education. Obama’s elegant and sweeping rhetoric talked about openness, listening, and peace. 0160; He strode out to the podium with the confident and upright posture of someone in command. 0160; As he began to speak, Obama folded and unfolded his hands in a constrained, protective manner on the podium. Every communication is two conversations, the content and the body language. 0160; When the two are aligned, a speaker can be powerful – even charismatic.

The New York Times joined other media outlets in reading between the lines of this speech, and featured in its coverage what many consider the signal rhetorical touch of the night: Clinton's clever turning of the controversy over her loss back toward her supporters, as in this excerpt: “I want you to ask yourselves: Were you in this campaign just for me?” And, as she is pale-skinned, with pale hair, orange works with her own coloring , so she'd look good in it on or off the podium. I quoted NPR's Ron Elving about Michelle Obama's speech at the Democratic National Convention, and here he weighs in on Hillary Clinton's speech Tuesday night: It was the second night in a row the convention headliner had been a woman, and the second night in a row that a woman had delivered just about everything anyone could have asked.
