One hundred years ago, a woman named Clara Zetkin had a dream. Clara was the leader of the “Women’s Office” for the Social Democratic Party in Germany, and she was bothered by the lack of rights for women both in her country, and around the world. At that time, women in most countries did not have the right to vote. Clara was one of the many women around the world working to change that.
Here’s the opening of a speech given in celebration of International Women’s Day by Cathy Standiford (2009-2010 President, Soroptimist of the Americas). Note the excellent

A demonstration that content planning can and should include diversity , just as much a current force as social networking. Too many speakers and organizers just let panels happen without thinking through the content, flow, space for adjustments that need to be made in real time, and how to give the audience (in the room and outside the room on the backchannel) the information it needs and wants. Don't forget that there are other great resources for you to consult on managing the backchannel , including: Cliff Atkinson's book The Backchannel: How Audiences are Using Twitter and

Each year, Global Citizen Year (GCY) selects a Corps of high school seniors, and supports them through apprenticeships with social enterprises in Asia, Africa and Latin America during a “bridge year” before college. Duarte has a very special spot in our heart for cause-related work . Social media marketing is a trend, not a fad. We have just written about a powerful new research study that paints a picture of how thousands of smart companies are already benefiting from the inclusion of social media. What’s clear from that research is that when we evaluate social media, we are not talking about the marketing longevity equivalent of the hula hoop or the Lambada.
But, most small to medium-sized businesses have yet to participate fully and enthusiastically.
Social media marketing is here to stay.

Lots of great ideas!) My PowerPoint design wishes for 2009? The look and feel of social media techniques will transition into PowerPoint design. Yes, you can often use various social media outlets -- Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn, your own blog, YouTube, et. I'm quite encouraged that people are using social media channels to talk back. The Internet and social media changed everything, as we know. Clay Shirky , author of Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organizations , has a new TED talk that is not just appropriate for our times in general, but given what is happening in Iran, it's actually perfectly poignant for this particular week. For generations communication was one-to-one or one-to-many — the one-to-many being largely the domain of the professionals.
