0160; You can’t approach a publisher directly.  0160; If you go to a publisher directly, it will think “Amateur!” 0160; Some are broader-based than others, but don’t ever send a proposal to an agent that doesn’t have at least several authors and books published in the area you care about.  0160; Under no circumstances deal with agents who charge to read proposals (or So you’ve written that proposal, and it’s killer.  0160; Remember, there’s still a long way to go.

OK, so you’ve got enough passion for a subject to write a book, and you get that it takes a long time – maybe two years or more.  Don’t write the book.  0160; That’s so important that I’ll say it again, in all caps:  DON’T WRITE THE BOOK.  0160; You’re prepared for the long haul.  0160; What’s the next step?
