Think about the energy you'll project. Do so in a way that surprises and delights us, then get back to talking. No one would have bet on this, but by all accounts, yesterday's SXSW keynote by Twitter CEO Ev Williams flopped. Louis Gray sums up what happened succinctly: After thousands of Twittering geeks and quasi-geeks alike had settled in to the packed exhibition hall and overflow rooms to hear the latest updates delivered straight from Twitter's leader, their excitement soon turned to boredom and finally, severe annoyance, as the interview's pace, tone and content fell

How many executives really want to sit through a 45 slide project update presentation? Today’s tip demonstrates how you can apply my ideas around more effective communication using persuasive PowerPoint visuals to a situation many of us are in. It doesn’t matter whether you are a formal project manager or just managing the projects that are part of your role, we all have to report on how our projects or initiatives are going. The one where the presenter details every little item and confuses the heck out of them? My guess is that no executives want to spend

The episode had a fictitious group (the Cartographers for Social Justice) present to some staff members the problems with the Mercator map and why it should be replaced with Peters Projection map (seen below). While companies do still print the Mercator Map for wall maps, most schools have begun to switch over to the Peters Projection map. When I was growing up studying geography, my school, like every other school in the world, used what is referred to as the Mercator Map. This map, as shown above, is something that you will probably recognize.

Kathleen Hall Jamieson, in Eloquence in an Electronic Age) I'd love to compile your suggestions for a future project on the blog. 8220;The Power Gap” (a new animated infographic by Airslide) is a great example of making a complex story look effortless…
“Demos came to us with an intensely detailed statistical study, which rated every single constituency in Britain according to a number of different social and economic aspects. For us, it was a lot of multi-layered information to squeeze into a short animation.
Simplicity does not necessarily mean skimping out on the meat of your presentation. When handled correctly, complex scenarios and data can still be included while being

While in the park I received a strong reminder of something we all know but too often forget: that emotions are contagious and our emotional displays can and do influence those around us, often in ways we're not even aware of. After 10-15 minutes of narration that is monotone and dispassionate, it becomes very difficult indeed to stay with any speaker, regardless of topic. Our story and our evidence matter, but the genuine emotions that we project have a direct and strong influence — for good and for bad — on the message our audience ultimately receives and remembers. The day after the From Business to Buttons conference in Malmö Sweden, I spent the day in Copenhagen with Bill DeRouchey and Scott Berkun and his wife Jill.

Throughout the keynote, the Twitter stream was projected on the screen along with the presenter's slides. Particularly when the Twitter stream is projected for all in the room to see, most attendees want their tweets to be intelligent and germain rather than silly or off-topic.
We need to ensure that we don't let our self-talk convince us that the audience is no longer listening to us simply because they are using an electronic device.
With the explosion in popularity of microblogging tools like Twitter , presenters are now faced with the possibility, or even likelihood, that some members of their audience will be tweeting (posting on Twitter) during the presentation.

Speaking at the February 24 Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR) professional development session, Janine made us all aware of our own body language and provided insights into projecting ourselves more positively. One hand on your hip conveys attitude, whereas two hands on your hips projects control. Driver noted that, as women, (Editor's note: I had to miss this dynamic presentation about women speakers and body language, but colleague Debbie Friez -- an officer of Washington Women in Public Relations, the event convener, and vice president at BurrellesLuce -- sent in this guest post about the event, emphasizing tips Eloquent Woman readers can use.) Body language expert, Janine Driver , aka “The Lyin’ Tamer”, is calling 2009 “The Year of the Woman”, and she has made it her goal to help women be aware of their body language.
