Cam Beck asked me this question the other day in response to my post about your worst public speaking fear coming true : "So how do you know the difference between preparing and over-preparing?" Also, here's a post I wrote about how I prepare for a presentation. You're prepared when: 1. disagree.

The first draft of the book is done , and to help get there I read over 50 books on public speaking. This is one of the most powerful sources of confidence – knowing that you are prepared. During the nervous stages, you can continually reassure yourself that you are prepared and can visualise all the aspects of the successful presentation that you have prepared.

There are so many resources available these days for public speakers. Here are three of my favourites: Presentation Zen ; Made to Stick ; Speak Like Churchill, Stand Like Lincoln. Speaking with emotion is one of the best ways to connect with the audience. Public speaking is a privilege. The art of public speaking.

Let's talk about those things that hold many people back from enjoying public speaking. Or you are so paralyzed by these fears that you find ways to avoid public speaking day after day, year after year. And take the time necessary to prepare. Simply stop speaking and wait until the distraction has passed.
