It’s an interesting question if you pile all the technology of laptops, mobile devices and phones, and how that helps or hurts the ability for a speaker to keep people’s attention.
But anyone who is staring into a laptop is not making eye contact with the speaker - they are taking a little bit of energy out of the room in order to give it to people who also have their eyes on laptops, either in the room or elsewhere. It’s kind of silly question as I’m not sure a speaker can effectively ban anything in their audience, but someone asked me this the other day.

It’s about the size of a quarter, which helps mobile presenters using a laptop. Small dongle that won’t stick out of laptops.
If you don’t have a Tablet PC, it can be tough to make full use of BBP to sketch your slides or write directly on your screen during a presentation.
If that’s the case, you may want to try Anoto penPresenter , which comes with a digital pen and special paper to help you get started drawing on your presentations.

At some meetings, the practice of live-tweeting is controversial --that's the practice of using your laptop or mobile device to send short updates, often on Twitter, about what the speakers are saying, in almost real time. But when I'm watching Twitter, what I see are useful tips and feedback from the audience -- and you don't have to be the day's speaker to take advantage of them. Here are some recent tweets on a day this week when audience members had lots of advice for speakers in conferences and classrooms.
