In the second half of '09, newsstand copies of VOGUE were down 15.1%. 0160; During the same timeframe, those of VANITY FAIR were up. Could we women be rebelling about being told how to look? 0160; VOGUE never was focused on real women, like Dove soap has been. 0160; It might have to pay dearly for that.

The blame game has started. 0160; WIRED's troubles, reports Ryan Tate in GAWKER, are being blamed on its head Christopher Anderson. 0160; Instead of pushing ads, which have been going down down down, Anderson has been focused on hawking his books and delivering keynote addresses. 0160; I wasn't impressed.

Although it's been out there a while, Andrew Young's THE POLITICIAN is still selling well. 0160; Tonight on Amazon.com, it's at #481 , which is excellent. Young confirms that promoting a book is 90% of the new book game. 0160; The marketplace is glutted with books. 0160; Also, self-publishing makes that easier.

My personal take is that although purposeful pacing can work as a gimmick or for short segments of frenetic energy, stillness holds up better with time. Clint Eastwood, speaking about how to act on camera said, "Don't just do something - stand there." Eddie Murphy told Chris Rock to pace the stage like a panther during his standup routines.
