This process has been simplified in the latest Keynote with the new, ginormous theme picker chock full of interesting templates, but I almost always start with standard black. This puts the different types of base slides available in the black template at the top of the slide navigator. When this is used throughout the entire presentation, it is safe to assume that the presenter cares as minimally as possible about visually engaging the audience and is only using PowerPoint because someone held a gun to their head. EXAMPLE: Solution(s): Use a preset slide background (not to be confused with a template or theme). Clip-Art With the popularity of low-cost stock imagery sites like iStockPhoto and user contributed photo sites like Flickr (as long as you respect the image's copyright license), Clip-Art is a thing of the past. There's an inherent relationship between a presenter and his/her audience.

PowerPoint Template View more presentations from neilpatel .
One great way to use original (and often free) images is on Flickr , via CompFight . Flickr is always my first stop to find imagery, although it's not rare for me to end up finding the image I'm looking for on iStock.
Recently I stumbled upon a 2007 blog post from Neil Patel at QuickSprout.com . It was entitled "The Lazy Man's Way to Building a Great PowerPoint Presentation." I have to say, I found myself disagreeing with most of it...so

The Title Slide - This title slide represents what must be a “corporate” template that the presenter used. If he is forced to use this template, then my suggestion would be to try to encourage the powers that be to consider a redesign. Two are from the Flickr Creative Commons collection (with credit given) and one is from the Coast Guard’s own Flicker photostream.
