It's written and talked about, and has become so apparent that there is actually a teleprompter on Twitter that is very funny reading: @BOTeleprompter. (As Extemporaneously speaking... Every leader has to be able to speak well extemporaneously - they are always in the limelight and have to communicate well in all situations. President Obama is no longer the premier communicator - which is remarkable as he was elected largely because of his speaking ability. I

And, of course, most people define eloquence as the ability to speak extemporaneously in roll-off-the-tongue, smooth-sounding sentences--words that go beyond basics to flourishes and turns of phrase that make us pause and listen, and that move us to a place beyond our daily lives. Another female candidate for higher office is getting criticized for, among other things, her speaking skills, and today Maureen Dowd comes to Caroline Kennedy's defense in the New York Times: I know about “you knows.”

Interestingly, Bert Decker twittered this link to this article that talks about how our President Barack Obama doesn’t go anywhere without his TelePrompter . But most importantly we value leaders who are able to speak extemporaneously in an effective manner (without a teleprompte This week on The Public Speaker I talk about when it makes sense to read, when it’s OK to memorize (never) and when to use notes . I also give tips on how to read and how to use notes.
