saw Stephen present in Seattle this summer at the Tableau Conference and we had a chance to spend some time together before the event. met Maureen Stone in Seattle this summer and saw one of her presentations. To learn how to design and deliver better presentations, we need to pull from many educational sources. Books are good, but which ones?

The event is super popular, as the same course sells out year after year. didn’t count but by my guess he had nearly 800 people attend that day in Seattle.
There are two factors at work explaining the dominance of all day, mostly lecture events:
For years I’d heard about Edward Tufte’s famous all day lecture . I’d owned his books, but somehow never made it to the show.

Most ignites are held as social events with drinking and other activities , and dozens of these events have been held around the world .
I’ve spoken at 5 different ignite events (Ignite Seattle x3, Gnomedex, Ignite Boston) and make much of my living from public speaking - here’s my advice on this special format:

20 tips for better conference speaking ~ 16 February 2009 ~ View from on stage as I’m preparing to speak at An Event Apart New Orleans 2008. To borrow a line from the An Event Apart Speaker’s Guide, always err on the side of being more advanced. Get to your engagement (conference) early so you’ll be both well rested and able to sit in on some events. I’ll be straight up with you: I don’t profess to be an expert speaker. I’ve had my share of presentations that have been total flops, along with some very successful ones.

June 11-12, Malmö (Sweden) According to the event organizers, Business to Buttons "is the meeting place in Europe for interaction designers, business strategist and usability experts. July 20-23, Seattle (USA) This is a great conference not too far from my US hometown that's billed as "...three Next week I'll be up in Tokyo meeting with friends to talk about TEDx Tokyo. In the evening of April 7 I'll be giving a presentation in the Apple Store theatre in Ginza.

Redfin recently hosted a free event called The Naked Truth , for tech entrepreneurs. The event was held at the normally very cool Seattle Sculpture Park . The problem is the amphitheater on the grounds creates some odd problems for public speaking.
They put the stage almost 30 feet from the front row.

Since April 5th, I’ve also been in: Atlanta, New Orleans, Seattle, Albuquerque, Toronto, New York, Minneapolis, Charlotte, and now London.
Add Add to that three events where I didn’t have to travel, but still had to stay in hotels in Chicago and work very hard: The three-day Ragan Fellowship meeting, the three-day Corporate Communicator’s Conferenc, and my two-day Advanced Internal Communication seminar with Jim Ylisela.
