Many bureaus won’t work with a speaker at this fee but she can always come back to them later, when she’s more expensive. Quoting two different fees would completely blow her relationship with the bureau. Plus having inconsistent fees is confusing for everyone, including the client. She paid her dues. Easy peasy.

Most people don’t know it, but some speakers at events they attend are paid to be there. An entire business exists for speakers, conference organizers and what are called speaker’s bureaus, for matching speakers and events together. They even have a search tool to help organizers find the right speaker for their event.

Getting gigs The easiest way to get paid is through the corporate special event markets. Associations are also open to creating new venues for speakers that will provide a draw (and high registration fees). Consultants can easily get paid for pre-conference workshops, especially if they are willing to take a percentage of the fees.
