Today, I have a whole team of people (blog experts, virtual assistants, book editors, graphics designers, traffic generators) but NOT ONE OF THEM is my employee. We worked so hard on that cover and the creative process is so time consuming and demanding. We HAD to go back to the drawing board since I’m a huge Godin fan, plus I didn’t want to hear “Your book looks like Seth’s” through the entire

There are certainly some methods that are ineffective (in my opinion), but there are aspects of presentation design where there is simply no right answer. The bigger the better in my opinion, but as long as it’s legible by everyone in the audience, use the size that fits your style.   Giving my own opinion of what I (personally) think is the best method(s) to design presentations will be left for another post.  What I Many of you have probably heard of a variety of “methods” to creating a PowerPoint presentation.  I’ve often been asked, “What’s the best method?”
Well-developed and designed presentations are finally getting the recognition they deserve. Attracting really good designers to work for Duarte has been tough, because designing presentations is “dirty work”. Designers tell us that REAL designers create print campaigns or web sites, and designing presentations is beneath them. The influence and visibility of Garr Reynolds’ blog have helped change the perception that presentations suck, and made people aware of just how powerful a presentation can be. But now that well-designed presentations have
Most people do not really think about design and designers, let alone think of themselves as designers. But what, if anything, can regular people — teachers, students, business people of all types — learn from designers and from thinking like a designer? Can medical doctors, scientists, researchers, and engineers, and other specialists in technical fields benefit in anyway by learning how a graphic designer or interaction designer thinks? And what of more specialized professions? Is there something designers, either through their training or experience, know

If there is one principle that reveals the essence of the Zen aesthetic found in Japanese traditional art and design — and life in general — it is harmony. Aesthetically, wa is fundamental to all good design, yet it goes beyond aesthetics. Here are just seven things to think about as you strive to bring more wa to your own design solutions. (1) Embrace economy of materials and means. The kanji that has been used by Japan for the past 1300 years or so to represent this concept is ? (wa). wa).
As I mentioned before, I'm in the beginning stages of writing and designing another book, this one called Presentation Zen Design. For many of us, there is a hole in our education when it comes to communicating visually, and knowledge of even the basics of graphic design is missing for most people. This book intends to do its small part to help fix this problem by focusing on concrete graphic design principles and techniques in This book is a deeper exploration of the Design section of PZ (chapters 5-7). The underlying guiding principles are the same -- restraint,
It’s hard to stop Nancy Duarte once she gets started talking about design. It’s no surprise that Nancy views the world through a design lens, a skill which she has used to help world-renowned executives, politicians and thought leaders develop presentations, but it may surprise some to know that it is also her personal management philosophy. She sat down with Jimmy and shared her thoughts about how design thinking can be the one of the most powerful tools for effective management. “Design And that’s exactly what happened when she met Jimmy Guterman , executive editor of MIT Sloan Management Review , at the most recent TED conference .

"What would you like to see in PowerPoint design in 2009?" That's what Olivia Mitchell, who writes the fantastic Speaking About Presenting blog, asked me last month. Lots of great ideas!) My PowerPoint design wishes for 2009? The look and feel of social media techniques will transition into PowerPoint design.
