With all the recent emphasis on the design of your PowerPoints (Keynote for the Mac), it's time to revisit the fact that your visuals are NOT your presentation. think that the emphasis on PowerPoints (we'll call them PP for brevity) is because 2008 WAS a great year for great design with the publication of Garr Reynolds' book "Presentation Zen" and Nancy Duarte's "slide:ology" (both still best sellers on Amazon.) There is an astounding difference (not an exaggeration) between the tools, canvas placement, typographic control, and overall aesthetics in Keynote compared to PowerPoint. Once you become familiar with Keynote, which isn’t an arduous process, the productivity and just plain enjoyment you’ll experience using it over PowerPoint is completely worth any switching costs. The problem is when I want to demo something 20 tips for better conference speaking ~ 16 February 2009 ~ View from on stage as I’m preparing to speak at An Event Apart New Orleans 2008.

While writing the next book, I’ve been in speech analysis-mode, and have considered including an analysis on this speech as an example of what not to do… but I love PowerPoint too much to do that.
We’ll have a chance to show you some of how this comes together in just a minute as Brad Brooks starts his demo.
Matt Lauer said that the launch of Windows 7 was the most important launch Microsoft had done in ten years. If that’s true, why’d it suck so much?

I was inspired by this blog post on using PowerPoint as a photo editor instead of Photoshop. The demo is shown in PowerPoint 2007 and the one aspect of the instructions that I was intrigued about was when he showed how to convert a rectangle to a set of points and then curve the sides. Unfortunately, you can’t do that in PowerPoint 2003 because it does not have the feature of converting a shape to points. So I started playing with the tools that PowerPoint 2003 does have to see if I could achieve the same result. It turns out that you can create a rectangle

It is almost here - PowerPoint 2010! a Microsoft PowerPoint MVP I have talked with the development team, seen demos, been asked questions and overall impressed. The month of November is going to almost entirely be focused on PowerPoint 2010... I have been running the pre-beta - beta for 2 months and here it is!
