When my son was in the 8 th grade I had the privilege of preparing and coaching the graduation speakers of Kent Middle School in Kentfield, California. Use a strong and loud voice, speak slowly, pause often, be dramatic and remember to give the audience a chance to respond to your comments and jokes.
· Whatever you do, don’t read your notes verbatim! Memorize your speech if it is short or organize in such The speakers were terrific, and those speeches were everything a good graduation speech should be: personal, hopeful, reflective, inspiring, cautionary and funny.

It was a pleasant surprise to pull Donne’s name out of the raffle hat since I had the privilege of working with her when she attended the National Speakers Association/ Northern California Chapter Pro Track program in 2008. At that time Donne had just founded the GaGaSisterhood and was beginning to speak publically to get the word out.
I am pleased to announce that Donne Davis, founder of the GaGaSisterhood (”Where Grandmas bond, brag and benefit”), has won free attendance at our Encore! Elegant Skills for Powerful Presentations seminar

When the horses took off on that muddy field I was rooting for the Northern California favorite Chocolate Candy (who finished a respectable 5 th ). What is the message for the public speaker? Having a known strategy is your greatest weapon against the many inherent challenges of public speaking. I’m a horse racing fan and especially love the Kentucky Derby . During most racing events I don’t usually pay much attention to the jockeys.

While I reserve this space for all things related to presenting, I can and will at times speak about things going on in my personal life. Just yesterday I returned from California where we celebrated her life. Not that she incessantly spoke, but she could speak to anyone, anywhere, about anything. The great thing about writing your own blog (as opposed to writing for a company’s blog) is your ability to be 100% transparent.
