Bylines help build careers.  Smart speechwriters know:  bylines can become their most impressive professional credential. I recently received a note from a writer who attended my 2009 “Business of Six-Figure Speechwriting” seminar in Philadelphia.  Previously, he had worked on staff with a large energy company.

0160; That means no books, no opinion-editorials bylined by them in FORBES or BUSINESS WEEK, no blog posts and no speeches delivered at the Manhattan or Detroit Economic Club.  0160; Nothing else will provide a platform for influence, power, and profits like a book.  Yesterday GE Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Immelt voiced optimism at an industry conference.  0160;

Publish more books, for our own bylines.  Thank the Higher Power, Universe, Virgin Mary, or Holy Ghost for being such an emotional mess.  If hope could pack a voodoo wallop, 2010 will turn out to be a very good year.  0160; But we writers have to be prepared to identify, leap on, and exploit opportunity.  0160;
