If you look at almost any statistic out there, America is not a very healthy nation. The Obesity Society's research shows that 49 out of 50 states have over 20% of residents listed as obese and 3 states have over 30% of their residents are obese - needless to say, not good. Why is this?

Looking back at my own K-12 education, I wish I had had more exposure to science and math, especially astronomy, physics, and statistics which were all but missing for me until college. The arts and sciences are avatars of human creativity — [they] are our attempt as humans to build an understanding of the world around us...." Speaking of the role of art & music in education Mae Jemison's TED presentation ties in nicely with a piece that came out this week by the legendary Quincy Jones called Arts Education in America. Mae Jemison is an astronaut, a medical doctor, an art collector, and a dancer.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics [BLS] defines "discouraged workers" as those who had been searching for a job during the year but, down about it all, haven't done so in the last four weeks. 0160; After a long hard adolescence supported by America's affluence, I grew up. 0160; Currently, according to THE NEW YORK TIMES, BLS reports there are 758,000 of them, many over-50.
Well, they should be discouraged.

Statistics indicate that the reality is that for every five people who read a headline, on average only one reads the actual story and content.
Do social media represent a dumbing down of America , a liberation of new possibilities, or both, or neither? Pick a position, yea or nay, pick a social media topic, and there are countless statistics either confirming or questioning the validity of that position.
