Having only Keynote on my laptop wasn’t going to cut it, so I bought a copy of Office 2008 and downloaded OpenOffice 3.0 PowerPoint’s template choices in the 2008 version are light-years ahead of those in PowerPoint 2004. Scores: Keynote: 20 , PowerPoint 2008: 17, OpenOffice: 5. It wore out its welcome.

That’s because I think it’s much easier for you as a presenter if there’s just one application open on your laptop – rather than having to click between applications during your presentation. There is an add-in to do this with PowerPoint 2007 called Slide Tweet , but you need Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio Tools for Office.

Housekeeping Prepare all your notes, laptops, make sure everyone has water before you get on stage, in some cases, plan out where folks will sit.
