I owned my last house in 2004.  0160; In fact, at age 64, I published my first novel  [link] .  0160; I lucked out and sold it at the near-top of the market.  0160; I haven't owned property since. In fact, I took a vow of poverty which has mutated into a determination to avoid excess materialism.

0160; But around 2004, assignments vanished, I panicked, and I was back.  Publish more books, for our own bylines.  The rule of thumb seems to be: For every book we publish there are about 4 false starts on our hard drive.  If hope could pack a voodoo wallop, 2010 will turn out to be a very good year.  0160; But we writers have to be prepared to identify, leap on, and exploit opportunity.

There was a time, and it was as recent as 2004 when I was first learning social media, that THE WALL STREET JOURNAL was a career-breaker and a career-maker.   0160; For my own byline I published four. 0160;  A negative article or even a quote could have the power of a thunder bolt thrown by Zeus. 
In 2004, it dawned on me that I couldn't and wouldn't deal with The Establishment any more.  0160; In addition to making a decent living, I will be publishing my first novel this fall.  There is a game, sometimes a lucrative one, outside working for The Establishment.  0160; To play it you must be honest.
