Louis Archdiocese spent $843,000 in fiscal 2009 in legal fees.  0160; The Diocese used a brandname law firm and it was on a fee-paid basis.  Full Disclosure:  In 2004, I did a few months of consulting for the Diocese of Bridgepor Like many industries, law has had a bad year.  0160; Those BigFoot white shoe law firms are laying off associates, deferring the start date of those promised jobs, cutting salaries, and making partners kick in up to 15% of their pay.

Part of this process is marketing (what we say about the conferece), partly positioning (conference fees and location) but mostly it is a question of targeting. That sort of assumed entitlement helps widen the gulf between the commoners (whose fees pay for the conference) and the inner circle.
