It was with great joy that last month, I uninstalled Office 2004. The software, PowerPoint 2004 included, were getting on my nerves and there was nothing that suite could do to repair the broken relationship we had. Having only Keynote on my laptop wasn’t going to cut it, so I bought a copy of Office 2008 and downloaded OpenOffice 3.0 It wore out its welcome.
Since then, I signed up to teach a slide design class through the county’s adult & community education program.

wrote my first post on May 30, 2004 with the intent of generating ideas for the book I was preparing to write, which became the first edition of Beyond Bullet Points . If you've been a reader of the Beyond Bullets blog, I'd like to thank you for keeping in touch over the years. I'm now happy to announce that this blog is moving to a new home at a new website called BBP Online .
A lot has happened since I started writing this blog.

Today, I want to talk about swimmer Michael Phelps , the 23-year-old winner of six gold and two bronze medals at the 2004 Olympics, and holder of several U.S. Because I so love the way athletic preparation, challenges and accomplishments parallel much of what we face as speakers (and in life in general), I'm going to cover a couple more of the athletes and events I watched over the past few weeks during the Olympic Trials. If you didn't read the post about coming from behind to win , check it out, along with the video.

In this photo, a teleprompter at the 2004 Republican convention in New York is located below a bank of cameras. (Photo So many people have Googled their way to this blog to ask whether speakers used teleprompters at the two political conventions that I think it's worth a short discussion. The answer is yes: Speakers expect to use teleprompters at conventions, where the hall--and the television audience beyond it--is huge.
